Today it seems our illustrious Government have decided to bring forward proposed legislation to block file sharing protocols on the internet.
Previously scheduled to come in in 2012, there is now some kind of urgency to get the laws in place. No, I’ve no idea why either, but I’m sure large amounts of cash were involved.
Still, the legislation could place a requirement at the door of service providers, requiring them to monitor and disconnect users from “download sites”, such as Limewire.
There has been no specific mention of BitTorrent, although I imagine given the Government’s sledgehammer-nut approach it will be all encompassing.
To be honest I didn’t even think anyone used Limewire any more, but again this is Stephen Timms MP being a complete retard and reading from his nicely prepared copyright lobby group script.
Apparently Timms will instruct Ofcom to apply technical measures to block file sharing if he deems it necessary. What’ll that take, a giant back hander from Simon Cowell?
Why don’t they just ban the fucking internet while they’re at it?
This anticompetitive Government is stupid, it’s like they are trying to turn back time. I mean, lets just say for example they did manage to pass this all inclusive technical block on all peer to peer traffic. So your Limewire is blocked, any torrent tracking sites are blocked, all torrent client sites are blocked.
Government happy. Feargal Sharkey happy, jumping up and down on his little soapbox listening to his one song that obviously isn’t generating enough royalties to buy him a decent suit. But hey, a good suit these days is hard to find.
I digress..
If the Government were to slap us with these laws, I’d just rent a remote server in somewhere like Romania and download stuff using that, then simply FTP it back on to my PC. Simples. In fact, I would probably be able to download even more stuff since I’d have my server in an ISP datacentre with a fat pipe and be able to leave it pumping downloads 24/7.
English ISPs would soon start up operations in such places if the likes of Stephen Timms and his BPI brigade actually manage to pass these rights infringing laws.
It’s barmy. You can’t stop it. There will always be a way. But what do you expect, it’s a Labour government, and they’ve always been in favour of blocking progress.

Labour are scum, scum and nothing but scum.
When a Labour MP dies of anal cancer, I weep with joy.
