Blackpool Council deceided to truncate the North Line and closed the orignal station - now Wilkinsons and put it further North!! Blackpool council certainly turned their back on the railway. They now want to close South station and gain the land. One reason is they want to link Yeadon Way with Station Road, and save the cost of a bridge. They are not looking long term. If services were improved you would see a huge increase in traffic. Frequncy needs to be at least a half hourly service - Restore the Manchester service. ATM crap trains and only an hourly service with a 2 car 'bus' train. (142 pacer) It was not Beeching that deceided to close Central Station – it was Blackpool Council!!

So I agree they should keep South station but sort out the area around it because at present it looks awful. Hopefully if they work the same magic they have on the other Central Corridor phases (which local muppet Hamish Howitt blasted 'a waste of money') then it will be a much more welcoming entrance to South Shore. I would also build a loop line at Lytham and double the stations capacity to two trains and hour and I would build a cafe at the station, something a bit more welcoming then what is there presently.
