It was revealed over the weekend that construction of the new housing for Carnesky’s Ghost Train has had to be halted due to another monumental planning cock up by Blackpool Council.

In a similar vein to the Starr Gate tram depot, the council has again failed to carry out proper and thorough planning procedure and has steamrollered ahead with their plans without full authority to do so.

As the framework of the new housing took shape at Flagstaff Gardens on the Promenade, a United Utilities representative appeared on site to inform builders that they were building on top of an rainwater overflow tank to which United Utilities requires full unhindered access at all times.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Robert Wynne came out with his guns blazing, slapping down the arrogant town hall regime;

“It seems they have acted as a law unto themselves, as they had started building on Flagstaff Gardens before the formal planning process had begun.”

Carte blanche-waving council honcho Alan Cavill was defiant in his response;

“We were only asked to provide access to the works, which we catered for. If there is any chance we aren’t allowed to build there, we want something more formal than a man in a yellow coat coming down to the site and telling us to stop work.”

United Utilities have said it is unlikely that this construction will be allowed to continue, and no doubt thousands of pounds has been wasted on both the flawed planning and the doomed construction.

Perhaps it’s time the Council cut their losses and offloaded this white elephant and sacked their useless planning department to pay for it. A resolution is apparently due this week.

  1. Great article but The Gazette has been censoring my criticisms of useless pessimist Cavill. I wrote a comment agreeing with Seasider1956 saying useless overpaid jobsworths Cavill and Weaver should be demoted to being binmen ‘Removed by Administrator’. That was not offensive or unsuitable, its just an opinion, it wasn’t a personal abusive attack on them. Why is the Gazette stifling free speech. But I must praise the Gazette in dealing with 2 idiots who have been targeting me for no reason.

  2. Alan Cavill is a smarmy lying useless piece of shite! As is Reg Haslam (former planning boss) and Head of Legal Services, Mark (knows fuck-all about the law) Lewis. David Lund, head of childrens services is a failed head teacher, fuck me the Town Hall is FULL of idiots and losers. Julian Kearsley is one of the very few senior officers who has a clue and he is about to be sacked because Weaver thinks he wants his job.

    This is just the latest in a catalog of errors carried out by this shite Council, “overseen” by the fucking useless Callow Twins.

    When will there be some sackings or resignations?

    Maybe when they have to take down Brilliance because the Fire Appliances can’t get up there someone will start taking note!

    • I couldn’t agree more TrooBloo I just wish we could sack the lot of them. Cavill is useless, he is a total pessimist with no belief in Blackpool, he was one of the first ones saying ‘Blackpool’s doomed’ when Manchester ‘stole’ ‘our’ supercasino. Surely you would think a man who is paid six-figures who is supposed to be in charge of our regeneration would have some belief and optimism for the town. Weaver is just as bad, I just wish there was some way of getting shot of him, unfortunately the only way to do that is wait for him to stand down and let’s face it he has it far too cushy to do that anytime soon.

      • Did you know Weaver offered to resign but Callow wouldn’t accept it???

        You couldn’t make this shit up!

        Roll on 2011 and the local elections!

        • I have heard that before and I was furious when I heard it. Weaver along with Fisher slammed the door on alternatives to a supercasino EVEN AFTER the casino was ‘stolen’ by Manchester. I never wanted it anyway but I was more furious that Weaver and Fisher blocked any opportunities for a Plan B. Peter Callow might not be the best council we have had but I certainly don’t want Liebour getting back in.

        • Like you, I’d love to see some heads roll for these constant planning cock-ups (as well as other failures) but surprise surprise this Council and its motley crew of back scratching executives squirms and wriggles its way through debacle after debacle.
