Paul Maynard has today posted a fun story about our beloved Joan Humble, Labour MP for Blackpool North.

In the House of Commons, amidst a gathering of self-preserving back-slapping and political point scoring, Joan questioned Rosie Winterton MP (who like many Labour MPs went to a private, fee paying school – the kind that only Tory toffs are supposed to go to) about the recent proposal for the acquisition of Blackpool Tower by the council.

Yes, that’s right. That very project that has nothing to do with Joan Humble, or Labour, at all.

Suffice to say, following Rosie Winterton’s response, both Mrs Humble and Ms Winterton ended up looking like a pair of clueless muppets

2 of a kind from parties that are 2 of a kind.

    Tory = labour= Useless.

  2. Zim Flyer says:

Joan Humble would be better of asking questions about what measures the Government will take to deal with all the recent FireBombings.

We don’t need to go to Afghanistan to find terrorist bombers we have plenty trying to burn down Blackpool.

  3. Zim Flyer says:

Too true Phil, if it continues we will have to see the return of Fire Wardens like they had in the war.

Even Guy fawkes feels upstaged by what has happened!

Doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Liebour are always trying to claim credit for all the regeneration works. Let’s get some things straight. Yes I begrudgingly have to admit that SOME (NOT ALL) of the work was ‘left over’ from Labour like Houndshill (Phase 1 NOT Phase 2) and the seafront. But ‘cardy’ a well-known Labour lover on the Gasjet was claiming Labour set up the Tower Headland (set up by new Council after the People’s Playground went belly up), Waterloo Rd revamp (set up by Waterloo councillors Fowler and Lee). I bet also if and when the long-awaited and much needed Phase 2 of Houndshill (redeveloping that eyesore block between little known Tower St, Adelaide St and Coronation St) is completed Labour supporters will claim credit for that. But it was Fisher that cancelled Phase 2 when Manchester ‘stole’ (won fair and square) ‘our’ (it was never ours) casino. It is the Conservative council that has resurrected that scheme. Under the Conservatives we have other exciting schemes in the pipeline; snowdome for Central Station (beats a boring conference centre anyday and is something Blackpool residents like me can actually enjoy) Illuminations Museum and the plans for the Winter Gardens. All these plans are still early days but things are certainly looking brighter than under Labour.

Back to Humble though, I notice she is making a big song and dance about Ken Clarke’s proposals to scrap regional development agencies like NWDA and replace them with a more efficient system. I might write an article on this soon, so keep watching.

Ah, excellent. I haven’t heard about that but I am interested to read what kind of spin Mr Clarke has put on it since on the face of it it’s not going to be a popular idea.

Next he’ll be saying he wants to scrap the NHS and replace it with a more efficient system…

I don’t know the full ins and outs just yet but I think it sounds great, scrap these wasteful institutions and sack jobsworths like Steve Broomhead and distribute funding to a local level cut out the middle man. RDAs are just more bureaucracy for more of Labour’s ‘public sector’ jobs. I will actuall be writing an article on this in the near future.

So where is the “Councils” Tower Proposal up to.

I would presume that Stage Two of securing a world class operator is complete and the “three highest ranked” respondents satisfying the minimum requirements have been invited to submit outline proposals. ISOP (to be returned within one month).

This tendering process seems to be well planned, but is it on schedule and have we actually managed to gain THREE WORLD CLASS candidates to go through to the next round ?.

I would not expect the companies to be named. But it would be good news if the criteria has been met and processed.

    No News——- is——- No News

Assuming that the purchase will go through in the first place of course.
