Excellent comment skeet, I agree completely about that muppet Howitt. I don't even believe he believes in UKIP's policies, he has just jumped on the bandwagon because they have a pledge to amend the smoking ban which I don't support as I am a big supporter of the ban. I do support most of UKIP's other policies but that one is a big bugbear for me. I am getting very tempted to write to the Gazette or even Johnston Press and complain about all the publicity this idiot is getting because I am fed up of reading about him.

Neither young nor thick.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Paul Maynard and rather than be blinded by an obsession towards the political party he represents I judge him on the quality of man that he is.

He is fair, he is energetic and I repeat again he is the best man to unite the different people and groups who care and love Blackpool. Only through such groups uniting do we stand a chance of bringing back the spirit of John Bickerstaffe in the continued effort to regenerate Blackpool.

I understand Frustrated but voting for any mainstream politician is a no go.Why?

Because the whole politcal scene needs a FUNDAMENTAL change and thst means BNP/UKIP/ED mps, then and only then, will the mainstream realise that they have taken the piss for too long, and its good for democracy to have various views instead of the 3 in 1 scum we have now.

I will be voting BNP/UKIP/EDs, no mainstrream party again.

Frustrated the problem in Wyre is ....

I wouldn't disagree with why you don't want to vote for a mainstream party. But I think tactical voting is essential to get the worst lot of the time out and that voting for non mainstreams in a general election (and only general elections) merely lets other people say which of the mainstream lots get in. I know if we all voted for a decent person then a mainstream candidate wouldn't need to be elected - but there are far too many people that will only ever vote mainstream to make it a reality - hence the crap national politicians and policies that we see.

And I'll see who wants to stand in Fairhaven ward next time and I hope we can get some sort of consensus on 3 real alternatives standing. And of course I'd leaflet drop or whatever for someone I thought would either make a difference or at least try to make a difference within the current anti-democractic setup.

Fylde already has the Ratepayers alliance, but is actually possible to achieve full independence, and would you achieve anything by doing so?

I think independent councillors can be quite good and can mobilize locals. Independent MPs are somewhat pointless unless there's a massive number of them, but then how would they be independent?

MPs are generally anonymous unless they're crawling for votes after being caught with their hands in the till.

Is that fair? I mean, Labour's hardly been a stunning example of governance. And they sold all our gold at the lowest point. What would be better?

Look at the figures out today, 21.2% of the population that are not in work and are not looking for work as well as about 2.5million unemployed and looking for work and the only reason it's not more is because the Government keep employing people.

Hi skeet, thanks for the compliments and welcome!

I have no idea why this rogue gets so much exposure in the Gasjet, but so be it. He's always got that stupid jumper on as well.

Local politics needs a kick up the arse which is why we need to get petitions done for the elected mayor campaign.

At least this way there will be a single, fully empowered and fully responsible figurehead, no matter what political allegiances they have.
