I don’t know if many of you have seen this, but there are wobbly camera moments galore in the official Ron Bell campaign video, released on Saturday.
For those that don’t know, Cllr Ron Bell is the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Conservatives in Blackpool South and will be going head to head with smoking rebel Hamish Howitt (well, maybe) and incumbent Gordon Marsden MP.
Enjoy:
My favourite bits are where he sneaks a look at his script, that he’s just reading some pre-written trash because his words don’t flow properly and his utterly false facial expressions, especially the clueless look when he says, “I was too busy working to get involved in politics”. Guffaw guffaw.
The constant pauses in his speech reminded me of kids in an English lesson at school being asked to read a chapter of I am the Cheese by their teacher. Funny too, that his only other video is of the Paul Nicholas School of Acting…
Update!
I was walking through HMV just now and noticed that there’s a Ron Bell audio CD out. Selling at £6.99, the 65 minute long production takes a new, unique angle on relaxation and meditation. Instead of listening to sounds of the ocean or of birds singing, insomniacs around the world can listen to Ron Bell discussing his prospective career in politics, his life in the marines, the acceptance of Kensington money and how big his house is on Division Lane.
As an added bonus, the CD comes complete with a donations slip for the Ron Bell election fund and an invitation to hobnob with Ron, his brother Gary and convicted rapist Owen Oyston at a Blackpool FC home match of your choice.

I didn’t even know about this Phil thanks for putting it up. I will definitely be voting for Ron Bell. Partly because I am a Conservative supporter anyway but I have actually met him and he seems like a good down to earth bloke and actually lives in Blackpool unlike Marsden who pays lip service to Blackpool from our rival Brighton. I certainly won’t be backing Hamish I agree with a lot of what UKIP says but I strongly disagree with their plans to water down the smoking ban and I will not back a candidate who is just a one-issue politician especially when that one issue I feel extremely strongly about. Although it must be noted Hamish’s ‘selection’ is not yet pukka as there has been a lot of hoo haa in the local UKIP ranks with rows and even resignations. To be honest I would resign if I was a member and Hamish was selected.
After watching that video,I think this Ron Bell is a total wanker, sorry TB but you really are having to vote the slightly lesser of 2 evils.
You are entitled to your opinion Harold, that’s fair enough. My only quirk with Mr Bell is the Kensingtongate scandal but compared to Marsden’s lack of committment and Labour’s lack of investment in Blackpool that’s nothing to me. On the subject of the CD (must go and get that tommorow) Ron Bell actually lives in one of the smaller less expensive houses on Division Lane and to be quite honest I couldn’t give a toss if he lived in a bedsit or a flash executive abode, I judge an MP based on politics and the candiate NEVER EVER class. Class-based voting is for idiots like ‘dustin’ (ex-Gasjet commenter and total cunt). I am absolutely appalled Liebour is resorting to class tactics and namecalling. The biggest laugh of all is that Ed Balls is the frontman of this childish campaign and he is a fucking public school boy himself, what a childish hypocrite he really is. A Labour sheep on the Gasjet known as ‘Born and Bread Blackpool Lad’ once challenged me with a typical socialist comment attacking Ron Bell’s residence saying ‘Its not exactly representative of the average Blackpool home is it’. So then I responded ‘Ron Bell lives on Division Lane because he worked hard as a successful businessman to afford that home and Marsden isn’t exactly working class is he with his privileged background’ and he quickly shut up because like Labour supporters always do he had no comeback and won’t admit he was wrong so he avoided me.
TB that video did him no favours. If he was applying for a job and I was interviewing him, I would say “Do you really want this fuckin job”.
He came across as languid, mecahnical, unconcerned and lacking the passion and dynamics of a man who is supposed to be wanting to be MP and who LOVES his town and people.
That video was a fuckin PR disaster.Tell you what mate, he should give YOU a call, he could learn from you about passion for Blackpool.Sorry mate but YOU deserve better, noone has as much passion for Blackpool as you mate, his performace on that video was a disgrace. The energy from your postings alone would put him to shame.
Ron, wake the fuck up son,get angry about what has happened to Blackpool under this scum labour government and lay out out your vison with an enthusiasm that will blow out the TV tube!Show people you really want the job cos you can make a difference!
rant, over and out.
I do agree with there Harold, it was mechanical and scripted and did him no justice. I think what we should do is have a public debate with the candidates of all parties in person say in the Winter Gardens where like Question Time, residents can quiz them on anything they want and an impartial non-political chairman. Then we would get a proper view of the candidates and what they offer as candidates and politicians.
Now you are really motoring mate, i would love to attend that and question the labour candidate, lol!
So would I, really put him on the spot. The trouble is though of all the candidates Marsden would probably be the most well rehearsed so his PR man would have his answers readily prepared for any difficult questions like ‘Why do you live in Brighton most of the time?’ But the one I would really love to grill is Hamish just to prove he is a one-issue politician he is trying to get elected on this silly, pointless and misguided campaign (wise words of District Judge Peter Ward) against the smoking ban. Even if he were elected he wouldn’t get it overturned but the majority of the commons support it so he is wasting his time. I would love to question him though on policies just to prove he doesn’t have any.
We would destroy him and easily exsose him for being the useless PC liberal fascist cunt that he is.
I would abuse him and go out in style.
I’ve just watched the video and I do agree it seems a bit scripted but then what political broadcasts aren’t? I do agree with a lot of what he says and I like the way he didn’t stoop to childish namecalling and smearing like Labour always does. He launched a slight attack on Labour but he is opposition. Labour usually bases its negative tactics on saying ‘elect them and here is what they will do or remember last time’ at least when opposition politicians are critical their criticisms are based on facts not speculation.
I know what you mean, but it’s been done basically in one take in an unprofessional manner. It’s a poor reflection on the man if, as you say, he’s convincing and honest.
The first thing I thought was that some PR guy had handed him a script and forced him to read it. Like on those execution videos except he wasn’t in a boiler suit surrounded by men shouting ALLAH AKBAR!
It’s as if Ron hadn’t bothered to read it through a few times first.
The clips of him walking round the streets look like he’s a visitor and never been there before.
His patronising monotone isn’t exactly a vote winner either. I might vote for him but only to oust Gordon Marsden. Not because of Ron Bell.
If a Liberal candidate can come up with any publicity material I’m more than willing to stick it on here, but at this moment I don’t even know who the Liberal candidate is.
Bamborough where are you!
Yes I admit it is not a good reflection of Mr Bell it makes him look like another career politician like Marsden. I bet a Marsden broacast would look much more professional because he’s had plenty of practice at it. I too wonder why the Lib Dems haven’t put a candidate up yet. There was rumour Robert Wynne had his eye on the seat and while I am not a Lib Dem supporter I would consider a tactical vote if someone like Mr Wynne or Mr Bamborough were to throw their hat in the ring.
Bell is my choice at the moment as; 1. I am a Conservative anyway but I would consider a tactical vote to oust Marsden. 2. I refuse to vote Hamish unless I was really (and I mean REALLY) desperate 3. No Lib Dem/English Democrat/Independent candidates yet. 4. Like I say I do like Mr Bell as a candidate.
I’m not a Lib Dem supporter but I’m feeling more affiliated with their policy than this Green and Labour party fusion that David Cameron is pushing.
But which came first, was it Labour turning into Conservatives or the Conservatives turning into Labour? One of life’s great mysteries.
There is a good article on BBC News this morning with Nick Clegg saying he may have to postpone or shelve some of the parties pledges because of the recession which (to my dismay includes scrapping unfair tuition fees) but I do appreciate the fact they are at least being honest and realistic. Unlike Liebour who will promise the world and keep spending money they don’t have scaremongering votes with their childish ‘Tory cuts’ cries. Its not ‘Tory cuts vs Labour ‘investment” its ‘Tory sensible spending vs Labour reckless squandering of borrowed money’.
There’s an even better article over at Devil’s Kitchen.
Fantastic article thanks for posting it, oh speaking of Hamish the Gazette is giving that muppet a propaganda platform AGAIN. Why do they keep encouraging him by giving him free publicity? The guy does my head in.
Hamish has lost the plot, BIG TIME, cheers Phil good article,
Lol Its a bit like saying when did a turd turn into shite? lol
yes bring him on!
Long story but been abandoned at Palma Airport by Ryanair then ditched in Girona by them for a couple of days!
I agree that Robert Wynne would be an excellent candidate. However, Robert is a family man who loves the town where he was born and brought up. So one asks why on earth would he want to put himself up for a job where everyone is going to percieve you as been “on the take”, where he has to spend 85% of his time AWAY from the family and town that he loves etc…..
MP for Blackpool is an important job but it it is not the most important job. Mayor of Blackpool would the best job for a true Mr Blackpool. As Mayor, you get to spend most of your time here in Blackpool with your family and freinds. I truly believe Robert Wynne would make an excellent Mayor of Blackpool. I don’t think it should be a political appointment and I would be happy to see Rob reign as an Independent Mayor over a cabinet of Councillors from all parties and even independents. Robert needs persuading that Blackpool needs him and that with him at the helm then maybe, there is hope for us!
On a personal level, whilst I firmly believe the Liberal Democrats are the most honest Party with the best policies, I will always support what is best for my Area (Anchorsholme) and my Town (Blackpool) before Party Loyalty. I am unable to stand for Parliament at the moment because of commitments to the Home Office and also because I am currently employed by the Government but may do in the future.
The Liberal Democrat candidate is Cllr. Doreen Holt, a local lady who knows Blackpool better than most and has spent most of her life involved in community affairs and has been a dogged campaigner for disabled rights and for pensioners.
Some excellent points Jonbamboro, I agree completely Robert Wynne would be a better Mayor than MP. But we need a system like Boris Johnson in London where anyone can stand not just councillors (no doubt that would be Hamish Howitt’s next crusade!!!) and the elected Mayor actually has administrative powers rather than just a ‘ceremonial’ ribbon cutting role for long serving councillors like it is now. In the ideal world they should have to power to hire and fire jobworths in the Council, they could sack Weaver and Cavill to start with. If Cllr Holt is standing then I will definitely consider her, I have completely ruled out Labour for obvious reasons and UKIP because of their pro-smoking policies and Howitt being selected but if I like what I see from Mrs Holt she is definitely worth considering.
If we voted for the elected Mayor system then ANYONE can stand for Mayor, you wouldn’t have to be a member of a political Party. Also, the elected Mayor would have administritive powers! Look at what the Mayors in Doncaster, Watford, Middlesborough and Hartlepool have acheived!
I would like to see an elected Mayor as well. Stoke is a good example of the elected Mayor system working and failing. The first holder was an independent Mayor who did simple things like making the parks safe by employing Park wardens, then Labour got hold of the role and the last Mayor was arrested for corruption http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article5857569.ece
The position of directly elected Mayor has since been abolished.
I would love to see a Mayor like Ken Livingston running Blackpool and I say that as a Conservative voter. Red Ken did wonders for the public transport system of his city and always put his city first. We need someone who would do the same for Blackpool, ie put Blackpool first and be a man/woman with a plan.
Well said Zim Flyer, my choices would be Robert Wynne or Councillor Peter Collins (Park ward councillor) who may be a Conservative councillor but won in the solidly Labour ward of Park in 2008 with his excellent slogan ‘People before politics’, he is a true man of the people and local community spirit and I have word from people I know who live in Park he is a breath of fresh air compared to the other (Labour) councillor Brian Doherty who I have word is useless. Peter Collins is a councillor who works for the community first not his party. Someone like him is the sort of Mayor we need. But also somebody who believes strongly in Blackpool (rules out Weaver and Cavill) and has ambitions for the town.
I like what I’ve seen of Peter Collins too!

Where does she stand on the EU?
I agree, but is elected mayor even on the horizon?
Sadly no because the Council has repeatedly refused such suggestions despite massive public support and interest. The current Mayoral system is a joke its just an ego-boosting reward for long serving councillors. The only Mayor recently who really did anything was Mr Wynne. Mary Smith was useless and gave a cringeworthy speech at the 2008 Lights Switch On and the current guy I don’t even know anything about him.
He’s a useless Labour scum bag that can’t be arsed replying to my emails.
So he can fuck off.
Fair enough, that’s good enough for me.
and me!
What a complete and utter prat you are Bamborough. Second to last paragraph
“I am unable to stand for Parliament at the moment because of committments to the Home Office and also I am currently employed by the Government”
For God sake get a life you are a call centre operator telling people how much benefit they are going to get not double oh six and a half
“Jon can you go to Casablanca and sort out a particularly difficult denefit claim you can use lethel force if you have to” Sorry did Walter Mitty just walk in the room.
errr……. who’s the Walter Mitty? Me and Phil are the only ones on here who don’t hide behind a nickname all the time!
Bah I made a mess of that, my question was for jonbamboro, where does Cllr. Doreen Holt stand on the EU?
Not really sure to be honest Zim. She was a Conservative Councillor for years so I’m guessing more right than left but I’ll find out!
The Mayoral issue can be put back on the table by forcing a referendum. Approx 5,660 signatures are all that is required.

Check out BetterBlackpool !!! looks like it was only a vehicle for Mr Bell after all!
Ah well spotted Jon, what a surprise, Bell up to no good trying to deceive people.
I’ll put a prominent link to that site on here if that’s ok. Every little helps…
