Today there’s a story in the Gasjet about an unfortunate 25 year old mother, Emma Pollitt, who lost two children just after they were born. She’s doing a sponsored skydive for the premature baby charity Tommys and the Gasjet’s Emma Harris saw fit to tell us about it.
We often whinge when we read stories in the Daily Fail about immigrants entering the UK and having multiple children in order to live a life on benefits. Whilst it’s sad that Mrs Pollitt has lost two children she is on the face of it no different. At the age of 25 she already had 5 children and is trying for more.
Regular commenter Homer Cyril Kinvig laid it down on the line to Mrs Pollitt:
“You have shown no personal responsibility and you are scroungers, like the yusafs and the mgrawleys;all of your income is from US, yes the taxpayer!
“How dare you pontificate about being this great person when you had started your benefits career at the age of 15 with UNDERAGE sex.
“When was the last time either you or your scrounger husband paid tax and NI??
“You disgrace this country and are a product of a rotten government that has undermined personal responsibilty and traditional values.
“All you have done is produce at the expense of the taxpayer a benefit created brood who will never know the work ethic and 2 disabled children; what an achievement, not!
“I would love to cut all of YOUR benefits!”
To which someone calling themselves Gemma Pollitt retorted:
“MUST REALLY HURT KNOWIN I MAKE MORE MONEY THAN U DO BY CLAIMING AND I GET HOLIDAYS FOR FREE SO THANKS VERY MUCH FOR THAT!”
My own stance is similar to that of Homer: I’m not against big families per se, but the Pollitts are irresponsible in continuing to have more and more children considering neither has a job and they would not be able to afford said children were it not for the welfare state.
I am of the belief that the welfare state is for those that have met hard times and need a safety net, not for those that make a choice at an early age in their life that they’d rather have large amounts of unprotected sex in order to live the life of riley at the taxpayers’ expense than go out there, get a job, grind out a life and take responsibility for their actions.
What do you think?
loading…
I’ll tell you what I think and it’s the same as HCK, I’m sick of the likes of the Pollitt’s and people of that ilk, I had to raise four very young children after my husband died many years ago and at the time I was told I would be better off no longer working. Of course I continued (and still do) working as not only do I have my pride, my offspring learnt that to have what they want in life they have to work for it and I’m proud of each of them.
Rant over.

Hi,
Great posting, but does the name mudd mean anything to you.

Full respect to you summer62.

Hear hear that is what I like to hear, full credit to you Summer62. The big problem with the welfare system in this country is that is gives money to people with no desire to help themselves. I am great believer that if you want to be well-off and have what you want then work for it (exactly what Summer62 very rightly said). This is why I despise socialism the politics of envy and jealousy. I am not sure if it was on this site but someone told me an excellent way to summarise socialism and capitalism;- A man drives past in a Rolls Royce; The socialist says look at the toff in the Rolls, nobody should get them so we can all be equal. The capitalist says hopefully with hard work and graft I could be driving that car myself one day.
loading...
Precisely, though I’d say that the socialist/negative view is something reciprocated throughout the UK.
Jeremy Clarkson use that quote fairly often in his newspaper column. The Brit sees the Rolls-Royce and says “I’ll find a way to get him out of that” and the American says “I hope to be driving that one day”.

“Isnt it great?,work hard, pay taxes be PERSONALLY responsible, then along comes the credit crunch, wages frozen or reduced, hard to get credit, lose your job, fall behind with the mortgage.stress and misery and its not your fault.
On the other hand……….get pregnant at 15, have loads of kids, some of whom are sadly disabled, but Gordon Browns labour party will pay for everything so you never work again, all those juicy benefits, and you are laughing all the way to the bank, watching those idiots try and go to work in the snow, so they can pay taxes to keep you in benefits and lots of jeremy kyle shows…….

We are good grounded parents who do the best for thier children, thier are people out thier who dont want to work, trust me if i could work and tj be cared for i would biut when ur child spends more time in intensive care than at home thats impossible.

Its a shame that with all these qualifications that you cant spell and use grammar properly, looks like you need to go back to school for more;either way you are a result of Nu Labour and this sorry afair is a shocking indictment of what this country has beome.

What is really obscene here, is that these spongers still want more kids,T quote:”After Max was born, I was sterilised in theatre, so the only way we would be able to have children now would be through IVF.”
“But we are not sure we would want to go down that road as we don’t want to put ourselves through it again.”
Jesus wept, what kind of people consider having more kids in these circumstances?
Easy answer: Those that have no grasp of personal responsibility, who are amoral and its down to a juicy generous Nulabour BENEFITS system, designed to foster this kind of perverse and vile behaviour.
She said: “I can’t believe how generous people have been already.

I’ve read it, but whatever comment you were trying to link has been erased so I can’t see it.
Presuming you are who you say you are, put yourself in the taxpayer’s shoes for a moment.
Say you were a midwife (since you said you’re planning on doing that), and you’d decided you’d only have one child partly because you made the responsible choice that that’s all you could afford to fund.
Would you be happy if your neighbours were sat in all day watching Jeremy Kyle and fornicating whilst you’re braving the elements to get to work?
Would you be happy watching them add more and more kids to their family knowing that a) it was wholly their choice to have kids and not work and b) you’re paying for everything including their Sky TV subscription?
I can understand all these benefits for children with absent parents or disability but under no circumstances should there be a system be in place that says the Government will pay for your entire life and that of all your children if you choose to have endless children and not work.
If you thought the money would stop after 2 children, would you have had any more? No you wouldn’t.
Case closed.

Good Morning Phil, I have saved all the comment front he other site so I will post them on here shortly so you can see all the comments and not just edited ones.
I can see your main problem with the country as a whole is that people a having children when they are out of work and then continue to say out of work, THROUGH THIER OWN CHOICE. This is not my choice nor is it my husband.
You make a valid point if I were to be out at work all day and have slobs living next door who have no morals or integrity nor do this wish to seek work or training I can grasp that and find it entirely unacceptable.
However that simply is not us, you state about sitting in watching Jeremy Kyle My gosh I wish we had time.
Tj is 4 yrs old, he has appointments every day except on a Wednesday, we are in alder hey more than we are at home. Then their’s Lily she is 22m and has the same problems as Tj.
(CEREBAL PALSEY HEMIPALGIC,HYDROCLEPHCUS,VP SHUNT, PROFOUNDLY DEAF, HYPOBILLYRUBINANEMIA)
My son cant even walk, this idiot that calls herself Jen,Eva Harold or maybe it really is homer Simpson. Is just a nasty piece of work. I agree that the systems are wrong in respect of people who can actually work just lazing around doing nothing about it, but for family’s like myself its impossible with severely disabled children.
You Quiz me about having all these children whilst im not working you’ve been clearly mis-informed by THE IDIOT as myself and my husband worked full time before Tj was born, I started working at 14 in a sandwich shop, then at 18 moved to this area where my father was the general manager of cala gran Holiday park I worked their for a year whilst I found my feet then at 19 I went to work for BSE is Bispam a sales company I worked their for 2 and half years on dame good wage. So you see Im sorry but I simply don’t fit your profile of SCROUNGERS…
THESE ARE POPLE WHO HAVE TME ONT THEIR HANDS LAZE AROUND ALL DAY DOING NOTHING. THEY HAVE NO INTENSION OF WORKING OR TRAINING.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you don’t know my family you can only go by what THE IDIOT has said and edited.
Trust me working would be the easy option for me, nice little 9-5 job, no iv’s to do, no bolis’s, no ng feeds, no resuscitation my son at 3 am in the morning no suction at 8pm, 11pm, 2pm and 5pm. Think of how much it would cost the government to bring a nurse in to care for him far more than I get I can assure you. AS soon as Tj and Lily are in full time special school and their medical needs are being met and their lungs have developed new lung tissue we fully intend to get a jobs again I for one miss work I miss the interaction instead I get to sleep in hospital chairs.

First of all I haven’t labelled you as a scrounger.
Secondly when you put yourself in the paper you have to expect that people will – on a story like yours – quickly form an opinion.
I admire your attitude and that you have a work ethic. I’m glad it isn’t your intention to enjoy a benefits career.
I appreciate, though don’t fully understand as I don’t have children, that it must be extremely hard looking after highly dependent children.
You and your husband still made the choices to have 7 children in total and you’re only 25, though. That doesn’t rest easy, I’m afraid.
Feel free to link your donations page(s) by the way. The Gasjet didn’t.

I support the idiots comments as they refer to a situation that exists throughout the UK;its time changes were made to the welfare state, and this behaviour stamped out.

Oh and before u jump on my spelling mistakes not you PHIL THE IDIOT dont bother im in that much of a rush writing this im not even fussed. About a few errors. I can quite easily use proper grammer when I have to.

yes when you get your husband to write it for you.
“She goes on adn on about me being 15 when i had my first daughter, yes this is true but i stayed at school and got a job, i have 11gcse’s 4 a levels and i worked right up until i was 21″
I dont believe you and it that were true, you need to go back to college, because your ability to articulate yourself is shockingly limited for someone who is supposed to be so educated.
loading...
To be honest Phil I expected the article to being taken in the spirt it was intended. Which was to raise money for charity. But perhaps I was nieve this person has been hounding me for years so I knew she’d tag on at some point its very sad thou.
I see your point on the 7 children bit, I’ve had 8 by the way not 7, but 3 of these I had and worked full time to support them as did my husband we provided a good life, my husband even worked 2 jobs at one point for around a year. sadly 3 of those 8 have died. Obviously when you lose a child the emotions that run through you are awful and you feel the need to go and have another baby. For me it was about having a healthy term baby which sadly I’ve never had.
Sadly we have recently discovered what my problem is and that the hospital involved have made massive mistakes which cost my last son max too die.
Its on Just Giving the donations page and also on facebook.
http://www.justgiving.com/JUMPINGFORELLAANDMAX
I do contrubute to my community as does My husband. As will my children. My daughter wants to b a teacher. After all they have grown up seeing us work and being in college. they understand the value of money and they also see how hard life is when you have disabled children.
The one thing I know they will be is FANTASTIC PARENTS…. one day I sincerly hope not at 15 and I hope they are educated well enought to know that is not a wise choice however if they fell down that path, I would indeed support them and I have no Doubt in my mind that they would support themselfs by getting Job’s. I curtainly for one will not allow them at a working age to be lay around playing computer games so on.
I hope now you know more about the bigger picture of MY FAMILY that you see were not some family that doesnt care to work, loves benefits and thinks life comes along free. I’m from a working family myself as is my husband, i grew up with working class family. In fact my father favorite quote is ‘ I PAY 40p TO THE £ FOR PEOPLE THAT CLAIM JSA’ . Im one of 9 and always intended to have a large family.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I’ll be honest: I’m confused!
loading...
Well I’ll add my two-penneth as well. This country is rapidly becoming overpopulated – we’re having to build new housing on green belt/floodplain land, are schools are buckling under the strain, we have to keep building bigger and bigger hospitals, you can no longer park anywhere, we’re having to cut back on the rubbish we’re allowed each and the CO2 emmissions each of us creates and more importantly we’re being told we’re going to run out of food, water and fuel.
So I don’t condone anyone having more children than replace their parents. Having 5-8 children is an extraordinary rate of population growth for this couple to be participating in. OK – 3 might be an accident but this number quite clearly wasn’t. And when you start to have health difficulties there is never going to be any option other than for the parents to end up getting some sort of state support (added to all the enormous amount the NHS has spent on maternity and health services) unless you happen to be Bill Gates.
It doesn’t matter if your white or your descendants have been in the UK for generations, nor does it really matter if you are relatively rich or poor. This sort of number of children can’t be sustained and it’s ruining this country even in the very rare cases where the parents can actually fund this type of lifestyle themselves.
I don’t think Emma has a choice over whether to work or not now, and nor do I think she is the lowest form of life when she has clearly had such a terrible time and wants to help others to not have to go through this too. I don’t want this to be seen as a personal attack – as it’s not meant in this way. But having lots of children should not be seen as a positive thing at all.
loading...
My son Billy passed away as a result of him being born too soon in October. I can tell you now that watching your child die in your arms is the single worst thing anyone will go through. I met Emma online by sharing my experience – for someone that has been labelled as ‘the scum of society’ – she has been the most supportive person in the world. Without the help, support, love and prayers from her, I wouldn’t be coping as well as I am.
I understand your views on benefits and having multiple children, etc. However, Emma is one of the best mothers I have ever met – she cares 24/7 for both TJ and Lily. She never gets more than an hours sleep without having to either resuscitate TJ, suction him, inject them with the necessary drugs and generally care for them. Nobody on this site, including I, understand what that is like so when you label her all the things you have – stop and consider what she goes through. Also ask yourselves the question – would you leave your severely disabled children in the care of 2 full time nurses (who drain the resources of the NHS) or claim the benefits you can (that are still less than the cost of a nurse) and look after your children yourself? That’s an easy one.
No matter what anybody says, this IS a personal attack on Emma and Terry. Who are you to tell her how many children she can have? You don’t know her and you can’t dictate to her what she should be doing with her life, time or money.
The bottom line is that she’s doing a sky dive for charity so that any money raised may save the life of a baby. I suggest you use your vote to make your point instead of attacking a woman who is using her bad fortunes to help other people.
loading...
Ah you see I was agreeing with you until you accused me of making a personal attack.
Have I said she’s a bad mother? No. Have I said anything about her character? No. Have I labelled her the scum of society? No. In fact, Emma agreed with me that the Jeremy Kyle club is abhorrent and should be exiled to Guantanamo Bay.
If you read my post I simply stated – in a roundabout way – that I think it’s irresponsible to continue having children without the means to support them.
I’m not dictating what she’s doing with her money I’m voicing an opinion on what she’s doing with mine.
Taxpayers like me have every right to say how many children we believe anyone should have if we are (indirectly) funding them.
As far as I know Emma was in a position where she had had some children which she couldn’t afford yet continued to have more.
In times of climate change and strained resources, I believe it’s irresponsible to produce a massive family, particularly if you can’t afford them. That’s all I’m saying. Could be Emma, Gemma or the fairy godmother but the point still applies.
loading...
Phil, in a way I do agree with you but you but I’m guessing (and hoping) that you have never suffered the heartache of losing a child?
Billy was our first child and as we watched our little boy slip away from this world, knowing that we could not save him and that you are so helpless, was horrific.
However, if we were to go on and have 25 babies, nobody would ever replace him…yet, we have empty arms, an empty home and an empty life without him.
I know EXACTLY how Emma feels. No other baby shall ever replace the baby you have buried, but when you are SO prepared to be a ‘new mummy’ again, you want another baby.
I have worked full time since I was 18, yet the month before we lost Billy, I left my management job with the best known airline in the world to be a full time mother. Does that make me a scrounger? Does that make me someone who goes for every benefit going? I am now on Job Seekers Allowance and I did claim my maternity an bereavement allowances – should I ring Mr. Kyle?!
I never said it was you that put a personal attack on Emma. This ‘Homer’ bloke however has been PATHETIC. He has obviously never buried a child, watched them die in your arms, has never feel the lowest you ever will, has never sat there at Christmas day dreaming about the child that should have been.
For someone who can rant and rave about his ‘morals’ …. yes it IS in inverted commas as I personally think he needs to review them …. I think I can sit here and say you will NEVER, EVER know until you have been through it.
I do agree with having multiple children and your stance on it. However as my mother is one of 9 and my maternal grandparents are both one of thirteen, respectively, when they were growing up in east Manchester, in a 3 bedroomed house shared between the thirteen kids and the two parents, my grandmother wasn’t working, nobody said ANYTHING then as that was the norm.
So…… my point is that Emma and Terry are bloody fabulous parents. The ‘benefit’ state is getting out of hand but they are not part of that and should NEVER be tarred with the same brush. They care 24/7 for all of their children, disabled or not.
The funny thing is, my mother s a TV producer and occasionally works on ‘Jeremy Kyle’ – she knows Emma and Terry an has actually laughed at this forum topic. She meets the people you have talked about and knows that they are not the ‘scum of society’ or the ‘scroungers’ they have been made out to be…. otherwise, she’d be signing them up for Monday morning,
Like I said, Emma is jumping 14,000 foot from a plane to raise money to save the life of a child.
Instead of slating her for whatever reason, look your child in the eye and realise how lucky you are to have them with you, how lucky you are to hear them laugh, see them smile, watch them blow their birthday candles out, ride a bike, hear them cry or listen to them moan, because women like us never got that chance.
So, support her and donate one pound to her cause. She is an inspiration to everyone out there, whether they have lost their baby or not. She has shown me that there is life after this, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
loading...
As it happens I had completed all the stuff on her site to donate an awful lot more than that, except then the site broke and I was told to do my transaction later.
I totally accept your point that having large families was the norm many moons ago. But times have changed.
The question posed really was about whether Emma is pursuing a benefits career, i.e., a lifestyle by which she chose to have more children in order to claim more benefits.
I’ve not slated her, I’ve asked questions and she’s come on here to give her side which is fair enough.
As I’ve said, I’ve no issue with having a large family if you can afford it and I think it’s very sad that some of her – and your – children died.
Out of interest is your mum one of the ones that baits the plebs on there so when they appear on the stage they start kicking off?
loading...
To suggest or even imply that someone has children to claim benefits is insane!!!! Emma has had children because she wants a large family and who are we to say she can’t?
No, my mum is a freelance producer. I never said it was you, it’s that Homer man – he’s ridiculous.
I think she’s doing a fabulous thing and maybe I appreciate it more as I have suffered the loss of my little boy. If she can help one baby – good on her.
It’s support she needs, not slating.
loading...
To suggest that it doesn’t happen is equally insane.
Anyway I’ve made my donation. So there. I’m not all bad.

What do we have here? A pile of sh*te.
Let’s set the record straight.
Mrs Pollitt does not have 11 gcses or any a levels.
Terence Pollitt does not have a degree. That is fantasy. He doesn’t have a single recognised qualification to his name. Nor does Emma Pollitt. They are both work shy. Her NI contributions for her entire life are ZERO. And as for him using his “degree” to slide in to industry when their son is old enough, his criminal record will make that difficult even if he had of had a real degree. Their family must be so proud that BOTH of the Pollitts have managed to have significant criminal records when they are still so young.
And she uses the term husband frequently to add a little respectability to herself. What she omits to mention is they recently married (she forgot to thank us for paying for her wedding and reception) and that Terrence is not the father of most of her kids. How many fathers are there Mrs Pollitt, I’ve lost count. Is it three or four now?
She has achieved quite a lot for her age. There aren’t too many people who can say they married for the second time at 23 years old!
And the daughter she had a 15 wasn’t her first child. She had a son previous to him who is one of the dead ones.
Not only does Emma Pollitt claim every benefit she IS entitled to she also claims plenty she is not entitled to. Mrs Pollitt why don’t you tell everyone about the small matter of the £50000 (yes you all read that correctly, that is fifty thousand pounds) OVERPAYMENT you claimed for tax credits over a couple of years when you LIED and said you lived alone and not with your husband? Did you forget that? And that was just the OVERPAYMENT she claimed in that SINGLE benefit. What about all the others you over claim?
Or why don’t you tell everyone about the fraud you were arrested for last August? How’s that case proceeding Mrs Pollitt? (It is a separate fraud to the £50000 one).
You claim these benefits to support your family, you say. So why do we as taxpayers pay for you to BUY, KEEP and MAINTAIN two horses? I don’t know many working people who can afford riding lessons for their children, let alone two horses and their upkeep. But then you don’t fall in to the working person category.
We also pay for a house in the country for her and her family (and an adjoining field to play with her horses in).
But as well as us tax payers paying for her every whim she claims from charities too. We could start with the “family fund”. Mrs Pollitt claimed for the best part of £1000 for vouchers to take her family on holiday, being a poor hard done by family who needed the money to go on holiday because so many of her children have special needs. On the surface of it fair enough, it does cost extra to bring a disabled child on holiday. But then Mr and Mrs Pollitt packed their bags and went on holiday with their friends to Benidorm LEAVING all the children behind, but still used the vouchers from the Family Fund.
I could go on and on.
Jeremy Kyle wouldn’t even entertain this family on his programme.

Explosive stuff. When Harold reads this he’s going to top himself with rage.
I sense a firestorm…

There are no words that come out of this woman’s mouth that are true.
In the article she says “”After Max was born, I was sterilised in theatre, so the only way we would be able to have children now would be through IVF.
“But we are not sure we would want to go down that road as we don’t want to put ourselves through it again.”
Just two days later she posts the following message on mumsnet.
http://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/advice-support-40/ttc-support-fertility-conception-difficulties-39/369168-finally-weve-started-process-egg-share-so-excited-xxx.html
She lied in the article about not being sure about more kids because she knew how disgusted people would be if she had told the truth.
She’s using OUR money to have IVF in the hope she can have another baby, one that will be born prematurely as they all have and one that will probably be disabled because of it.
But its all worth it for her, we get to pay for yet another child.
What was that she said about wanting to go back to work? Now you know what her idea of a job is, pregnancy+childbirth=more benefits.

Well I find all that very amusing to say the least.
Id love to know which criminal record it is your talking about since my husband doesn’t have one.
As for me being charged with fraud that’s a new one on me.
In fact we have both just got visa’s for Florida so thats impossible…
(that’ll give you all somehting else to moan about)
Also get your facts right I didn’t have a son before kaitlin she was my first and my my 2nd who did die was born in the same year after kaitlin.
Also theirs only 2 fathers so im really sorry to disappoint.
Also the 50k got cleared as clearly you didn’t know the facts did you… for all those noisy people dying to know its simply this, we claimed income support jointly as a couple which we thought meant all benefits would be linked however tax credits wasn’t and they thought I was still a single parent but due to the fact that income support had been changed it was all cleared..
Again really think you need to get your facts right…
As for the family fund 1000 that’s a good one bcos the most you can get is 400 and you don’t get vouchers you get cash…
well its changed now but you used to get only cash where as now you can get cash or vouchers but that particular holiday you are talking about in benidorm which might I add was a fantastic holiday… the holiday money came from family fund the month after and we used that to go to haven in Wales.
Not doing very well are you….
Oh next one Terrys Degree hhmmm let me see nvq level 1, nvq level 2 nvq level 3 oh and then the degree yes I defo didn’t make a mistake their…masters next year.
oh and me ive been excepted onto a midwifery course this sept with my gcse’s so yet again get your facts right. Your way of mark on everything as usual. At least no the basics for goodness sake.
Oh sorry I do apologise you did get something right I do have 2 horse well I have 1 horse and 2 pony and I have 1 Acer of land which is at the side of my house…but since the horse is on loan you’ve screwed up yet again….just incase you don’t understand what loan means its were you don’t actually buy the horse.
hmmmm is that it yes I think ive covered all bases…

Oh and as for ivf yes we are doing it and its free bet your loving that FREE were not paying
nothing to do with lying in artical i couldnt give too tosses about what people think surely you’ve gathered that by now…

The money you STOLE from tax credits wasn’t cleared as you say.
It was written off as “unrecoverable” due to you pleading poverty and extenuating circumstances.
That’s not the same as cleared Mrs Pollitt. Nor does it mean you were entitled to it.
Terences degree! Brilliant. You keep them coming and we’ll all keep laughing.
You say he doesn’t have a criminal record (which is bullsh*t) but you don’t deny your own criminal record?
It takes a special kind of woman to intentionally bring a child in to this world knowing they will be disabled because they will be born early. But all you see is the pound signs.
