Yet he's the only candidate in town for Conservatives. If I wanted to vote Conservative it would have to be for Coun Bell-end, the honorable member for Kensington Homes. No chance. Doreen Holt? Voted in favour of making the No.1 club a casino, no chance. Gay Gordon? Should be standing in Brighton. We need a system of multi-member constituencies, as in Ireland, where the parties have to put up a range of candidates with different views and experiences, who effectively have to compete with their own party as well as the opposition to win election. Would any of the above be elected in such circumstances? It also produces a more democratic, proportional outcome nationally so you don't have a situation where the party winning the most votes ends up losing, as has happened twice since the war. Here in Blackpool South, personally I think Ron Bell is a decent candidate but does have his faults, but its him or 5 more years of the useless Gordon Marsden and I certainly don't want Hamish getting in not that that's a risk really. I would rather have Mr Maynard given a chance to prove himself rather than letting Blackpool North and Cleveleys stagnate under Humble or worse still the smug arrogant Simon Blackburn. The last time we had hung parliament in the UK was in the 1940s as far as I can find. If there was a hung parliament I worry Liebour will form a pact with the Lib Dems and we get another left-wing Government. The Lib Dems have pledged they would not back Labour in a hung parliament but saying it and doing it are two different things.
