In a bizarre turn, a horde of 300 people have come out in vocal support of knicker-sniffing former mayor of Preesall, Ian Stafford.
This man – a local handyman by day – was convicted of stealing ladies underwear and wanking himself off with them. And now a group of women want to let him out? The mind boggles.
But his “ironing lady”, Anita Rowe, has been knocking on doors to get signatures for a petition to try to ignite an appeal against his sentence. I wonder whether it was her job to iron the underwear before he cracked one off into them?
Is this a cult thing that goes on over Wyre?
She suggested that he requires medical help. He does – in prison. Under no circumstances should his sentence be quashed.

Depends on your viewpoint I suppose. Is any woman likely to let him anywhere near their home? Unlikely.
They’re always saying prisons are full and we’re having to let criminals out early so maybe community service would have been more appropriate. The sad thing is the court just ordered him locked up for a while. That’s likely to achieve nothing (just delay his knicker knicking for a short while) and cost the country a lot.

He’s a menace to society!

I agree with Frustrated, this man might be what you could call a ‘weirdo’ but he is certainly not a danger to people. I am not saying what he did was right but jailing a relatively harmless man while violent criminals like the brutal psycho muderder of Steven Moody is still out there on bail is ridiculous to me. Prior to his crimes this man was an upstanding citizen, a few sick non-violent thefts and he gets 6 years. While the sick scumbag attackers of Kieron Whitfield, an innocent teenager who may never walk again get much softer sentences.
There is no excuse for what he has done but the fact that robbing defenceless old ladies and beating someone half to death gets a lesser sentence sickens me.

I thought that picture had been photoshopped with the liquify tool for like 10 minutes before i realised thats really him.
6 years? bit much for stealing knickers isnt it?
what about the 17 year old that beat someone with their own crutches in st annes giving him brain damage, that got 6 months.

He got 2 years not 6, but you’re right about the last thing.

I thought it was 6 because he got 2 years for each of the 3 offences. I totally agree Jamesh, it is totally OTT. This guy is in the wrong but its not as though he has attacked anyone or killed anyone. A first offence for a sick but minor theft should not recieve a long prison sentence. I think he would learn his lesson much more by being publicly humiliated doing community service in Preesall. Just think of all the career criminals who have been given ‘One more chance’ because they are ‘ashamed and remorseful’ on their 348th conviction.

Maybe they’re running concurrently like the two four-year sentences bent metropolitan police commander Ali Dizaei received.
I’m not sure about the sentence really. It’s 2 years, but he’ll serve probably less than a year. For abusing people’s trust and then committing sex acts with their underwear whilst in their property I think that’s just fine.
It’s other sentences like the one quoted by Jamesh that should be upped.

I totally agree those sentences should be upped. But I have seen much worse abuses of public office that have got off lighter. I once read about a police officer who drove through residential areas at 80mph with no lights and sirens to pick up a chinese takeaway. There was eyewitnesses who saw his reckless idiotic driving and his own force even said there was no record of him attending an incident. Yet despite this overwhelming evidence a stupid judge let him off saying ‘as you are a police officer I can trust your evidence as honest and trustworthy’ what a bloody joke. He abused his powers and got away with it. He could have easily killed someone.

I thought he was going to get let off with a non-custodial sentence, until I read that he’d performed ‘a sex act’ (nothing to do with Blackpool Council’s ‘Showzam’) alongside nicking the knickers – which I took to mean, ‘wanking off’. In which case, it throws a whole different light on it. But I could be wrong.

Exactly, the article in the Gasjet explicitly(!) states that he was performing disgusting sex acts which I took to the mean the same thing.
I was under the impression he was found to be performing these acts whilst on the premises of his victims.

Two years is the right sentence for him, just because others get lenient sentences doesn’t mean he should, the solution is harsher sentences with Hardlabour for all criminals.

ouch, I should check these before I post, I meant to say “he shouldn’t, not should”.
