This slogan makes me cringe and react with fury everytime I hear it, Labour banging on about ‘fairness’. They have shown in the last 13 years they know nothing about fairness. Hearing Labour bang on about aspiration makes me cringe evenmore, socialism opposes hard work and ambition.
A fine example of Labour’s campaign against fairness is this ridiculous culture of ‘positive’ discrimination. As far as I am concerned there is no such thing discrimination is discrimination.
When we are recruiting people for PPCs, the police, fire service or any job I think it is paramount that the most able and suitable candidate is recruited. Employers should be banned from recruiting anyone based on gender, ethnicity, nationality, social background or anything else in that line. I want the best person for the job hired.
I don’t give a toss if the fire service are ‘promoting equality’ by recruiting more women and ethnic minorities. If they are the most suitable candidates then fine they should be recruited. Nobody should be given preference for jobs because they tick boxes and meet Labour’s stupid targets.
I think ‘positive’ discrimination should be outlawed. Yet Harriet Harperson the Secretary of State for Political Correctness is pushing through laws to promote this unethical practice.
If this is Labour’s idea of ‘fairness’ it proves what a joke of a Government they really are

If DC were to ditch PC, massively reduce immigration, adhere to the policy of best person for the job, he would get MASSIVE support, so why doesnt he behave like a true conservative then?

TB that is an excellent post and perfectly illustrates everything that the Labour experiment has ruined about Britain.
Few things make my blood boil more than the idea of “positive discrimination”. I’m bloody sure if I got overlooked for a job purely because I was a white middle class protestant male (i.e. scum in the eyes of Labour) then I’d be making a big song and dance about it.
If my house gets tanned, or my kids get run down in the street I certainly couldn’t give two shits if the police or emergency services are black, white, male, female or muslim. I just want the BEST people there.
On another note I attended my kids parents night during the week. Within their little library (she is Primary 2) I saw at least 15-20 books about Hinduism and Islam and not one single book about christianity or British culture. Needless to say a very angry letter is now on its way to the Scottish Parliament. I’m sure I’ll just be accused of being a bigot though.

Thank you JR Ewing I totally agree, jobs should be awarded on the basis of merit and skill NEVER PC. The trouble is as you say if you complain about being overlooked for a job on these grounds you are branded a ‘racist’ or ‘bigot’ that’s not democracy. In today’s Gazette (not on the website) there is an article about the all-woman candidate list in Blackpool North. With Simon Blackburn (gobby arrogant councillor) and Jack Croysdill (Victor Meldrew reincarnated but without the humour) defending it claiming it makes Parliament ‘fairer’ and more ‘representative’. I have nothing at all against female MPs/candidates and I would have no problem voting for one if I felt they were the best candidate. But I think these lists are pure sexism.

I know its slightly off topic I know this will interest Harold. I was in Manchester today and there was a group of people with a table asking people to sign their petition. The petition was a group representing the ‘Socialist Worker’ calling for the BNP to be banned. I am not a BNP supporter but they are a legitmate political party and I feel these socialists I saw today are the true fascists trying to block free speech.

That makes a lot of sense I believe we should limit immigration and clamp down on the welfare state. I think trade unions should be banned from having any party political links and should be barred from donating to any parties. I am not saying just to bankrupt Labour, I am saying that because I think it is unfair that workers who despise Labour like me have to join biased organisations that fund socialist parties. Unions should be politically impartial like The Gazette (wink!)

Normally I can’t stand this guy but Andrew Adonis is talking some sense this morning http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8566719.stm I really do not see what the big fuss is 15 crew down to 14 what difference does that make? I work on wards looking after 30 sick people where there is only 2 qualified nurses on and a night doctor covering 3 or 4 wards. Yet BA staff are whinging about being one member of staff less. They have it easy enough already working 17 hours a week. Apparently the legal limit is 12 I recall hearing. BA staff and Unite are acting like big babies spitting their dummies out over this. They are grossly overpaid for such an easy job, they get loads of excellent perks and this is how they repay the company. I think I can safely I will never fly with BA in the future. But well done Willie Walsh for his efforts to crush the strike.
