Radio Wave are today reporting that the bleached blonde, indoctrinated, New Labour disciple Simon Blackburn is being touted as replacement for Joan Humble in Blackpool North.

Go on, phone them up and tell them where you heard it first!

Oh happy days this smug, arrogant political pointscorer is standing, then again I am not that worried because if anything Paul Maynard has a good solid chance of winning this one and I can’t wait to see Blackburn get humiliated. 2010 elections could finally be our chance to get rid of Labour on the Fylde Coast for good.

    • Dolly the sheep says:

Dont know where this Blackburn story came from. it is true that his name has been banded about, but my understanding is that a local member of the Postal Workers Union (name escapes me but his second name begins with W) is the favourite to be selected here.

Although I`am a Socialist supporter I don`t think who Labour selects for this seat will make any difference. From Labour canvas returns Maynard is unfortunately a shoe in. Blackpool South though looks quite different.

      • Philtheone says:

I agree, I can’t see anything other than Labour victory in Blackpool South, but that’s assisted by the worst Conservative candidate of all time.

        • True Blackpudlian says:

It is terrible five more years of a useless MP who has never even lived in Blackpool and doesn’t give a toss about Blackpool. Blackpool is NOT a Labour town and it is time we got rid of Labour from Blackpool for good. Why are people so gullible and voting for Marsden? If people cared about Blackpool they would for anyone but Marsden (or Hamish).

          • Philtheone says:

Well, you yourself have seen what a laughing stock Ron Bell has made of himself, and he has failed to campaign until recently such that the Tories dropped Blackpool South as a target seat.

He doesn’t even have the full support of Blackpool Conservatives due to personal agendas harboured by the Callows and their cronies.

            • True Blackpudlian says:

You are right there Phil but it is just such an injustice the thought of Marsden clinging on, Blackpool deserves better. Come on Blackpool Conservatives get those Labour bastards out.

  2. True Blackpudlian says:

Yet more proof of the Gasjet’s Liebour bias; in the Gasjet today davie@layton’s misguided rant against Paul Maynard has been posted in the letters section and they have given Labour a whole article about their ‘fightback’. Why is the Gazette so pro-Labour? I am thinking of complaining to Johnston Press about this 1. Bias and 2. Censorship of my comments.

    • Philtheone says:

To be honest it’s more than Labour bias. It’s anyone but Conservative. Look at the coverage UKIP’s Hamish Howitt gets.

Having said that, I believe Paul Maynard had a piece in there last night, although I haven’t seen it.

      • True Blackpudlian says:

He did have a small 1/8 page article in the middle pages attacking a Labour peer for class war tactics claiming the Tories have no empathy for people in areas like Grange Park, what a fucking snob this guy is. But then Mr Maynard hit back pointing out the very popular Conservative Cllr Peter Collins who from what I hear has been a very good community figure who genuinely cares about his constituents. Labour need to grow up. I agree totally about the UKIP coverage as well, if it carries on I will be making a complaint to JP because the Gasjet have ignored 4 emails of mine requesting my comments be restored. I am sick of being oppressed.

        • seasidesammy says:

How can how anybody vote for Maynard? This jug eared Irish potato picker lookalike as only lived in this area for two minutes and he claims he wants to represent us.Hi is no better then GM MP

          • True Blackpudlian says:

He has lived here for 3 years which is more committment than Marsden has ever shown who has never lived in Blackpool all his 13 years.

          • Philtheone says:

Well, if we’re going by looks, then my vote’s for Cheryl Cole…

But on a serious note, are you being serious?

How many MPs do you think are actually from their constituencies?

Where’s Jovanka Humble from? Where’s Harold Elletson from? Where was Norman Miscampbell from? Where was Toby Low from?

None of these lot were from Blackpool North.

Mr Maynard is a nice bloke, and if you actually go and speak to him you’ll realise that he has the town at heart, and he can see that there are real social issues that have been neglected by the council executive and elected members, never mind the Labour MPs who seem more intent on either living as far away from Blackpool as possible or claiming maximum expenses.

Of course I’m biased, but Labours track record in Blackpool is absolutely shocking. The town has declined hugely under Gordon Marsden and Jovanka Humble.

            • True Blackpudlian says:

Exactly Phil, I don’t give a toss where someone was born, it is how they work as an MP which matters and the fact that after 13 years in office Marsden still only has a ‘second’ home in Blackpool shows his lack of commitment. Well said Phil those useless Liebour MPs have done nothing for Blackpool and Mr Maynard seems like a very down to earth sort of guy (I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting him).

    • Zim Flyer says:

Even their headline today about a “Labour Fightback” is very pro Labour.

Well it’s up to our two sites to counter the balance which we will over time.

    • Harold says:

indeed TB and I hope Blackburn is massacred, i would rather vote for Paul maynard than him, a 10000000 times over.

  3. True Blackpudlian says:

As much as I am convinced the deleter(s) are something to do with the local Labour press office I have other suspicions to believe it is just some stupid kids pissing about. Have you ever noticed how they always leave 1 or 2 comments usually negative anti-Blackpool ones like BlackpoolRockSeller. I think what they are doing is thinking they are being clever by deliberately leaving that person’s posts so they will be accused of being the deleter. That twat frustrated of blackpool keeps hurling abuse at me of being the deleter, he needs to shut up because I am the victim not him and I know he reads this site. frustrated of blackpool if anything I have more reason to suspect you of being the deleter but I don’t go around childishly accusing other commenters on no grounds.

    • Philtheone says:

An intelligent deleter would delete some of their own comments too.

It’s been stated on here that Fylde councillors and council workers have been shown how to erase comments from the Gasjet. I can’t cite any source for that but I’m assured that it happens.

The best thing to do is to ignore those that target you. Just don’t reply to them. They’ll soon get bored.

  4. Blackpool First Alliance says:

From a Bournemouth newspaper site today….

HOW can Bournemouth town centre be popular and classy – and not like Blackpool? That was the question when the town’s political and business chiefs got together at the second meeting of the town centre business forum.

Council leader Stephen MacLoughlin told an audience at the Royal Bath Hotel: “We have to be forward thinking and attract people with a disposable income. We don’t want to go in the direction of what Blackpool stands for.

“Quality is what Bournemouth stood for in the past and that’s what we want in the future”

He briefed on the town- centre master vision, a £330-£380m plan to transform the town centre over 20 years, mostly through building on council land in partnership with a developer. Negotiations with six companies are ongoing.

When Lenny Segal of Westover Jewellers pointed out that there were no five-star hotels in the town he was told that one was envisaged in the initiative, next to the BIC.

The council also wants to get more people living and working in the town centre, especially students.

There was an acknowledgement that the town needs to cater for the masses. When Tony Deangelis of Mia Shoes questioned whether the Primark planned for the current BHS store was right for the town, he was told that it lacks budget retailers.

    • Zim Flyer says:

For all it’s faults, I would have Blackpool over Bournemouth anyday.

I would love their conference centre though.

      • True Blackpudlian says:

What a load of absolute snobbery, shut your smug arrogant mouth Steve Macloughlin. Keep your nasty vindictive elitist remarks to yourself. I don’t want Blackpool to go in the same direction as Bournemouth a nice enough place but a boring place with nothing to do like Preston.

Macloughlin OUT 2010, he is just as big a toffee nose as those twats behind The Secret Millionare and Location Location…

  5. Troobloo says:

I have lived in both Bournemouth and Blackpool and I do feel more at home in Blackpool. I do like the cosmolitan feel of Bournemouth but to be honest, when I was there last year, apart from them having a great conference centre, the place was just as much a shithole as Blackpool. Maybe not so many boarded up properties but it certainly isn’t the place it was. I do hate the smug attitude of many of the southerners too.

  6. john says:

I have spent some time in London by the sea and it is better then Bpool but you are right the people are all a bit up their own arses

    • troobloo says:

besides, i’m a bit of a fat bastard these days and Bournemouth is far too hilly!

On a serious note….. Blackpool completely missed the boat a few years ago when they didn’t take up the Lib Dem suggestion of Blackpool becoming a mecca for the elderley and disabled.

Too busy concentrating on Casinos and no Plan B means the chickens have come home to roost.

Blackpool still has some unique things like the Tower, tramway, golden mile and the fact that most of it is pretty flat.

We should be selling those attributes not trying to either hide them or upgrade them. If we lose the things that made us different we are totally totally finished!

  7. True Blackpudlian says:

I want Blackpool to be a more vibrant and cosmopolitan 21st century destination, out with the old in with the new and aim for some quality. But there was no need for that snob MacLoughlin to speak about my hometown like that, I find his remarks most offensive. Blackpool has also suffered from a lack of investment which doesn’t help our cause. Even the projects which are successful are half-complete or scaled back; now much to my great dismay Talbot Rd Bus Station and Wilkinsons are being saved and now they are even talking about not demolishing the eyesore police station which is exactly the same building in Preston, Leyland and Skelmersdale as a matter of interest.

  8. Harold says:

They are keeping that hideous police station, why?

I have an idea, use it as the NEW COUNCIL OFFICES.

    • True Blackpudlian says:

Its not definite (thank god) but it is being discussed as a possibility as apparently there is uncertainty on the funding for the relocation which I am fuming about. I want that hideous eyesore demolished, we never get any radical development in Blackpool we always get the leftovers. Central Station is set to be the site of the snowdome so hopefully that horrible building will be flattened, I just wish they would flatten all of Foxhole as well.

  9. Neb says:

Simon ‘CND’ Blackburn has been a bit arrogant in dashing to the press so quickly. The “special” selection process kicks off next week and there will be other potential local candidates. Though as it’s so close to the election, can’t rule out a ‘parachutist’ pushed in from HQ with a nominal local vote.

  10. Harold says:

I want that labour twat Blackburn to drop dead with the rest of that scum party.

  11. Neb says:

Ex-Cleveleys Councillor Penny Martin is also throwing her hat in the ring, not too late to have it declared an “all wimmin” shortlist by HQ either, so would scupper Blackburn unless he could get a quick sex change op done and stick a skirt on. ;-)

    • Jonbamboro says:

I wouldn’t put anything past Simon!

      • True Blackpudlian says:

No I wouldn’t, god help us if he gets elected, but the chances are slim. As far as I can see Paul Maynard has a very very good shot at this one, and rightly so I think he will make an excellent MP and best of all Mr Maynard being elected would really wind up Jack Croysdill, so its worth it just for that.

  12. Harold says:

To be fair penny was an ok councillor but shes in a rotten party, she should stand as an independent instead.

  13. john says:

Penny was a brillent councillor and should have kept her seat, but some people will vote for parties rather then candidates. Some people on this forum have said they would vote for the person rather then a party if that is the case she should win. Penny would be a Blackpool North MP who is a memeber of the Labour party not (and i don’t care what people say) a Conservative MP who is a MP for Blackpool North. That is a big difference she might even get me to vote for them.

  14. Harold says:

I agree John but I dont want a LABOUR government, Penny should stand as an INDEPENDENT, then I would vote for her instead of the BNP.

  15. True Blackpudlian says:

I plan to vote based on candidates in Blackpool South; in the last 13 years Marsden has proven to be totally useless and uncommitted to Blackpool, no way in a trillion years is Howitt getting my vote for obvious reasons so its between Goodwin, Bell and Holt for me. However I would consider a tactical vote if I felt it was the best way because I want Liebour out.

  16. Harold says:

I understand TB and in your position I would do something similar, Marsden is a total disgrace.
    Is Goodwin BNP?

    • True Blackpudlian says:

Yes Roy Goodwin is the BNP candidate. Eventhough I am not a BNP supporter I would vote for him before Hamish, at least he was democratically elected by his party!!!!

      • Harold says:

heres a question TB, Marsden or Hamish, if they were the only 2 candidates?

        what a choice!

        • True Blackpudlian says:

I’d sooner not vote than vote for either of them, I’d sooner dip my hand in chip fat than make that decision. I guess though I hate to say this but it would be Hamish but purely as a vote for UKIP not for Hamish. He doesn’t even represent UKIP and their policies it is all a joke. That for me is the lesser of two evils, because I will not vote Labour.

  17. Neb says:

So it’s a women shortlist, remember where you saw it predicted first, shame for Simon, but s’pose leader of Blackpool Labour group is fair consolation for not making a fuss over his disappointment. My prediction is it will be a shortlist of 6, Mrs Martin vs 5 nu labour clone wimmin parachutists with the winner having friends in the right places nationally.

  18. True Blackpudlian says:

I’d rather Blackburn just disappeared full stop, I don’t want him on the council full stop, I find him smug arrogant and cocky. He is a like a young Roy Fisher and that’s no good thing. All he cares about is political pointscoring to feed his massive ego. God help Blackpool if Labour ever get back in the town hall especially with Blackburn as leader, I fear for Blackpool. Hopefully the 2010 election will see the eradication of Liebour from the Fylde Coast for good.
