Apparently there is a war on Blackpool’s clampers today as  a proposed amendment to the Crime and Security Bill was highlighted. Release fees are to be capped and new routes for challenging fines are to be opened.

I’m not sure why Blackpool has been highlighted by the Gasjet given that this bill applies everywhere, but like anyone I am in favour of its implementation.

I understand that private businesses need a means of keeping unauthorised vehicles off their land but is clamping really the way to go? After all, it doesn’t remove the car from the space it’s in, it just creates misery for the owner who probably wouldn’t have parked there again anyway.

Towing away is somewhat different and I can see how a charge can be levied for storing the car after it’s been towed away, but some charges are ridiculous and regulating this industry is a good move.

I think if you do get clamped you have to weigh up whether it’s worth lashing out the fine or going down to B&Q to buy an angle grinder, a bit like this guy.
