Penny Martin, erstwhile LCC Labour councillor has thrown her hat in the ring to become Labour’s PPC in my area, Wyre. Now much as I despise the Labour party, Penny was a damn good councillor. For example she was the only councillor to attend the Area Action Plan (AAP) meetings at the Marine Hall in Fleetwood last year. She always (where possible) attended local strategic forum meetings in Thornton.
Cllr Russell Forsyth probably told all his obsequious Tory slimebag plebs to stay away, so AAP architect Gary Payne could get his way and push forward his plans to gridlock the area without hindrance or opposition. Penny did just that, she did point out the massive flaws within the AAP and she has also requested a strategic transport review as well, with the NWRDA.
I think Penny would make a good MP, but not in the execrable racist/sexist Labour party, who are a moral and social abomination on the political scene. But my previous comment alludes to the fact that her appointment is not without huge controversy. Today’s Gazette reports:
“The selection process for the role was steeped in controversy after the Labour Party decided the shortlist for candidates would be restricted to women only – a move described as a “breach of democracy” by opponents. But the party defended the decision saying it was an attempt to ensure there were more women in Parliament to deal with issues affecting women and children.”
Now imagine if we apply that logic and I stood as MP on a white male selection process only as white males are the only ones to understand the issues of white males. The presumption here is flawed and if we all apply Labour’s perverse logic, imagine the chaos that would occur! “Excuse me officer, I want a while male PC to deal with my complaint as only they are equipped to understand issues that affect white males”.
This is Zanulabour’s and Dave Cameron’s idea of representative equality. Thanks but no thanks.
Give my merit every time, regardless of race, sex or anything else.
My advice to Penny is this: stand as an independent like Keith Riley if you believe you can make a difference, you are in the wrong party love!

Brilliant article on DC and his PC clique, by Gerald Warner, it supports what I have alleged all along: they are NOT CONSERVATIVE.

I agree Harold, and my Labour Party sources tell me that she got more votes in the members selection ballot than all the other candidates put together. Also, she started off with her hustings speech saying that she has always opposed all women shortlists and would have stood for candidate in any case. A good local candidate, who will give Paul Maynard a run for his (Ashcroft) money in a truly marginal seat. These days it’s a real bonus to have a candidate from the major parties who doesn’t fit the clone careerist politician model, eg doesn’t earn a living working in as an advisor to an MP.
loading...
I don’t personally think it matters whether or not Maynard is Liam Fox’s advisor.
I don’t think it matters whether 1% of Tory donations come from a non-dom either. Labour have non-dom donors on the Privy Council anyway. Isn’t that worse?
One should consider, ideally, the candidates based on their own merits. However as Harold has identified, both Labour and the Conservative are politically correct showers.
The fact that a political party can come in and impose a women-only shortlist “to represent womens issues” and for us to all accept it as the norm is unbelievable.
In this case logic has prevailed and Martin was overwhelmingly supported. However from my own standpoint, if I were in Blackpool North I couldn’t bring myself to vote for her because I can’t support the Labour manifesto.
I don’t really get much out of the Tory one either, but thats the only way we will get change. I don’t want another 5 years like the last 5.

That leaves UKIP as the only party for right leaning voters?
loading...
Doesn’t have to even be right leaning really; it just has to do something that will benefit me in some way. Labour only seems to benefit people that dont work or work for the Government.
Most parties have converged in a sloppy mess in the centre ground somewhere making the choice difficult and pushing people to fringe parties which only serves to improve the chances of Labour getting back in.
I guess they think the centre is the holy grail of politics because Blair won such a landslide when he moved Labour to the right.
The only socialist aspects of society that are left are the NHS and the union movement… old Labour and socialism are dead and buried just like right wing politics are deemed too politically correct to support any more.

Well they have handed us over to the EU, so one day it may be pointless voting for any British government?
loading...
That’s the grand scheme of things these days isn’t it?
loading...
lol common purpose?

Same here Phil, I could not vote for her because I don’t believe in the Labour Party and what they stand for. I don’t want another Labour Government continuing driving the country into the ground. But I live in Blackpool South where we have had a useless Labour MP who doesn’t even live in Blackpool. I have totally ruled out UKIP for obvious reasons, so for me it is either Lib Dem, Conservative or Integrity. But despite the fact the election is less than a month away I have not seen any campaign leaflets at all yet.

I do like Penny a lot, sheshas fine qualities but I abhore the party of which shes a member. If she stood as an independent,I would vote for her but I cannot vote labour, ever again.
A classic case of a good prospective MP in a ROTTEN party; the people lose out again!

As we have gone completely of topic I will drop in a post (which I have put on another bog site) Penny Martin is now officially the Labour PPC for Blackpool North. This brings up a problem for me personally I feel New Labour have betrayed any socialist principals that they ever had and they are a very very bad government. I was sure I wasn’t going to vote Labour equally I thought Joan Humble was the worst type of MP. However Penny is the type of MP we should be looking for she was an excellent councillor (you couldn’t ask for a better one everyone how had any dealings with her say this). So should you vote for the best candidate or against them because they are in a very bad party?
I know this is a repeat post from another posting but this is where it should be. I also made my mind up about voting for Penny I’m not. Hate to say this but Harold right I feel she the right candidate but in the wrong party at the wrong time.

I understand your position John, I too have become so disillusioned with mainstream politics that I am gonna proably vote for a loony far right party, hopefull I will vote UKIP instead. Both parties have betrayed their core values, this is a consequence of the Blairism that I voted for (unknowlingly) in 97.
If penny comes to my door I will urge her to ditch labour like Keith Riley, yet again we are put in these positions where we lose out on good candidates due to rotten parties.I suppose what I have said about Penny could equally apply to Paul Maynard.
Put it this way mate, there will be no celebrations after election day unlike 97, (except for the BNP getting in Barking) just gloom and despair at a political syatem which is at its lowest ebb I can remember.
On the subject of women candidates, the tories were the first party to produce a woman PM and they, then ,were not PC.
loading...
She only got the slot because she is a woman. I take it the Labour Party Policy is that sexism is OK if it’s against men.
I urge everyone in the constituency to vote against her and with it this sexist policy so that in future candidates regardless of the gender will be allowed to stand for the Labour Party.

ZF shutup Penny is a great candidate for Blackpool North and thats the main thing.
loading...
If she is so great she wouldn’t need to use a system of descrimination against men to win.
She is window dressing and nothing more.
loading...
The system whether anyone likes it or not, has surely undermined her credibility and if I were Penny I wouldnt be happy at that.
Theres only way to select: No discrimination and merit counts EVERY time. You dont say discrimination is wrong by discriminating…………
loading...
To be fair, Penny Martin didn’t make it an all-wimmin list!
loading...
Why oh Why doesnt DC ditch the PC brigade?
He has alienated a lot of right leaning votesr; being anti -PC does not mean you are racist/sexist etc but you believe in merit and that is what counts!
loading...
It doesn’t matter if she is a nice person or even a good councillor she would be part of the party machine and would be told what to do and which way to vote, that doesn’t seem much like representing the voters to me or democracy.
Anyone with have a brain wouldn’t stand for that, so the question needs to be asked is, why they want to represent us,the simple answer in my view is for power and rewards, representing the voter doesn,t even enter their heads.
loading...
Fair point and thats just it; time to scrap the parties and have individuals standing instead and NOT party members.
loading...
I should have been a bit clearer in my statement about MPs assistants standing as MPs. I don’t object to someone’s current job in itself, but if the major part of someone’s adult career has been in politics, I’d suggest to them that they get out and work/live in the ordinary world for a few years before asking me for their vote.
It’s very true that most people vote for the party in a general election, like football teams, red, blues, yellows. This is unavoidable really, because it’s first past the post, all or nothing, electing a Government. Most of the time PR doesn’t make sense to me, but every now and again I think it would be a good way of holding the big established parties to account.
