I’ve moved the site on to a different web server software called nginx, which should be a lot faster than Apache.
Nginx (pronounced “engine X”) was written by Igor Sysoev in order to be able to handle the so-called C10k problem, or in laymans terms be able to handle 10,000 concurrent web server connections.
Supposedly it’s the same web server software used by many large sites such as Sourceforge and WordPress.com itself.
I’m interested to know whether it’s faster/slower or whether there are any problems that I have yet to discover. So please let me know if you discover any!
Thanks.

You got big plans then? Eeeks 10,000 server queries a second!!!!!!
Does the BBC news site get that many?
Is this one of the free wordpress themes or have you invested some hard earned into it?

I think the BBC news site probably gets a lot more than 10k concurrent connections!
The theme is a free one called Cleanr by Chandra Maharzan. I have made quite a few changes to it on here though.
The link to the original author’s site is at the bottom of the page!
