Whilst building another computer this morning, I heard the customary clank of the letter box which interrupted me, so I decided stop work and pick up the post. As it happened, it was a large envelope containing a supplement/brochure from my union, the PCS (Public and Commercial Services).
Guess what? They too are having elections for members of their NEC. But I was aghast at what I saw upon reading the details of the candidates. Under each candidate there was a designation:
RACIAL GROUP
There were White, Black, Asian, Mixed British Asian candidates, and so on (no pink or blue which annoyed me!). But in all earnestness, what the fuck has the candidate’s race got to do with their suitability for election? Why not do arsehole size for example?
Of course there is none, unless you are a PC fascist (especially Nulabour) who is determined to split this country along racial lines and this is what is actually happening. Personally for me, there’s only one race: the human race. The aptly named PCS union has get to get it. Their vile and socially divisive politically correct stance is getting on my wick; they dare call themselves a UNION?! Moreover it’s this kind of nonsense that fuels support for racially orientated parties, like the National Front and the BNP. The same kind of parties that the PCS continually scorn and decry for their obsession with race.

So I ripped it up (after wiping the shit off my hands) and put it in the bin where it belongs, much like PC brigade who have yet to grasp the meaning of Martin Luther King’s injunction:
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
I too look forward to living in a society where one is judged as an individual and on the content of one’s character, but whilst we have the fanatical unreasoning PC brigade, it will never ever happen.

I’m 100% English (assuming coming from Viking stock in 700 ish doesn’t exclude that), born here, 100% English parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents etc. and I think patriotism is very important. Because once you lose patriotism you lose a sense of identity – and with that a sense of community and community spirit. It doesn’t mean everyone has to be English to be part of that community, but once people from other nations become prominent rather than the English within England you’ve lost a lot. And no, I don’t approve of so many Brits going to Spain and colonising that country either.
I’d never fill in a PC form as British – it’s English and they can’t take that away from me even if they want to associate wanting to belong to a country only with idiots who want to chase others of a different skin colour down the street with a knife. Lets face it racist attacks are rare – and a lot of those aren’t by English people with racist motives as some aren’t English and those that are, are out to look to harm someone no matter what their background.

Most of you here will know I spent most of my life with a Sri Lankan partner. She was fiercely proud of being Sri Lankan as most of her countrymen I met were. It’s about time we took a leaf out of that book and were proud of what we are. It isn’t divisive to be patriotic – in fact it stops most racism because if you’re interested in your own background you’re more likely to be tolerant of others.

You would say Hitler was not patriotic but his followers would disagree. The Nazi party used powerful and emotive patriotic imagines and messages to gather support. They used the post wars treaties and the splitting up of their country and the destruction of their army and navy to call on German patriotism. This worked to the extent of school children so full of this patriotism throwing themselves armed only with grenades into the on coming tracks of Russian tanks invading their Fatherland. Using ‘Patriotism’ as means to an end does not equate to patriotism in its own right.
Patriotism is a sentiment;love of ones country/family/home etc, that does not mean blind obedience to authority to do inanse acts that would ultimately harm your country.
