We have 4 days left until possibly one of the most significant general elections in recent decades. This time last year it seemed relatively certain David Cameron would be taking the keys to No.10 next friday. However now with the opinion polls going haywire in the past few months there is increasing unertainty and the looming possibility of a Hung Parliament, an outcome not seen since 1974.
This hung parliament which ended up with a Labour-Liberal coalition which caused many problems for the country and the economy from what I have seen. At one time I actually thought the prospect of a hung parliament would be a good thing because nobody has outright control. But now with the increasing possibility of another Labour-Lib Dem coalition I dread the thought of a hung parliament. I despair at the thought of the wretched Labour Party continuing to have any power over us and to me a coalition of two left-wing parties is a worst-case scenario.
I could live with a Conservative-Lib Dem coalition as there is more of a balance politically and I must admit that not normally being a Lib Dem supporter I have been very impressed with the party recently. Nick Clegg has proven himself to be a formiddable contender in this election with a very good performance in the historic election TV debates. I could live with this if a hung parliament was the only option.
But on the whole I would rather avoid a hung parliament full stop. I would rather have a majority Government that isn’t Labour.
I have been very impressed with the performaces of Nick Clegg and David Cameron on the debates, they have shown true substance and some very attractive policies and they had the balls to be honest about the economy. Brown on the other hand I found very negative stooping to cheap political pointscoring and smearing. He was abysmal, but then again I didn’t expect any miracles to begin with.
Here in Blackpool; we currently have a Labour MP of 13 years who has never lived in Blackpool, continues to live in Brighton dropping by Blackpool when it suits. He has no connection with Blackpool or the people at all. I have lived in Blackpool all my life just down the road from his ‘Blackpool home’ and I have NEVER EVER seen him anywhere other than in the Gazette. On top of all that he is a terrible MP who does nothing to speak up for Blackpool or fight our corner. We deserve better than this, we deserve a LOCAL MP who will be a voice for the people of Blackpool not just another party sheep.
The dilemma we face here in Blackpool South is that we are not exactly spoilt for choice with alternatives. The only people with a chance of unseating Marsden are local councillors Doreen Holt and Ron Bell.
Personally I plan to vote tactically purely with the primary objective of unseating Marsden and getting rid of Labour. I feel Blackpool has suffered from years of Labour neglect; the casino fiasco and the recent college shambles being just two examples of their ‘committment’ to Blackpool. I leave it to you to decide who to vote for but my appeal is if you care about Blackpool, if you care about the country and the future then don’t vote Labour (or UKIP!!!) Please don’t be conned by Brown and Labour and their lies and spin, don’t be bought off by all this rubbish about ‘fairness’ Brown doesn’t know the meaning of the word. LABOUR OUT 2010 MARSDEN OUT 2010 for a better country and a better Blackpool.

I will be voting UKIP BUT in your case TB I dont blame you;Hamish should be in the monster raving loony party;hes not a serious candidate, unless UKIP want the Tories to win Blackpool south.

I don’t blame you for supporting them in Blackpool North because you have an excellent candidate in Roy Hopwood, but as you say here in Blackpool South you couldn’t pay me to vote for that pro-smoking muppet, he is a paper candidate and I expect him to come last and I am not just saying that, he doesn’t have as many fans as he likes to think and many UKIP voters have deserted the party because of all this pro-smoking rubbish.

I like Roy but if Paul Maynard became my MP, which he probably will, I wouldnt complain, yes you have a poor choice in Bpool south, so who will it be mate, Ron or Doreen?

I am leaning towards Ron Bell again, like I say from a tactical point of view. I know this is a rather subjective assessment but I have honestly not seen a single Vote Liberal Democrat sign anywhere in Blackpool and also I have still not had a leaflet from Coun Holt. Ladbrokes also rates Ron Bell as the nearest challenger to Marsden. So I still feel Ron Bell has a better chance of getting rid of Marsden. I fear for Blackpool if Marsden gets back in, 5 more years of him are not worth thinking about. MARSDEN OUT 2010 HOWITT NOT IN 2010

The one thing that unites the majority of contributors on this blog is that we are all pissed off with the system.
We are all looking for a change that we can believe in.
I have advised people to vote tactically in the past but I now realise that the only way to achieve real change is to vote positively.
I will be voting Liberal Democrat on Thursday and would heartily recommend others to do the same.

I agree. While libdems are a little too labour leaning in some ways IMO a hung parliament is the only way to go. I hope we have a hung parliament forever untill ther is political reform. No more of this bullshit system where you can still have TONS of seats but still come third.
NO MORE FUCKING HANDY MANDY TOO.

I agree Jon, well said.THE SYSTEM HAS TO GO.
Whilst I am pissed off with all 3 parties, I wouldnt complain if the lib dems ran the show for a change,I detest labour and I detest conservative.

I do find it strange that TB is constantly referring to a Lib/Lab alliance while I am willing to except that Cables economic attitude to the present slump is similar to Lab it has to be said Clegg seems to be more interested in a Con alliance. I can only see TB saying this as a reason why he can vote Con in the coming election because it can’t be for the candidate.

I agree it is time for change and the system has to go. But you cannot change it over night. The system will be well stirred and shaken a bit up on Thursday but it will not be changed. The powers behind the three parties will just approach the next election in a different slant to maintain the status quo next time, but it will still be the same party system with a party whip, and a first past the post scoring system. So no real change.
I believe in the basic principles of Integrity UK, whereby we vote for someone from our own area who lives and works amongst us, someone who knows about local concerns, someone who really cares about the local community. And not for someone who takes orders from someone in London or Europe and who probably doesn’t even know where Blackpool is.
Change has to start somewhere so why not here, it will not happen overnight, bur someone has to take the first step for a real change.
Ask yourself do you want do your bit and to be part of it, do you really want change, could it be any worst than the corrupt inefficient self perpetuating system we have now, whereby some politicians are more interested in lining their own pockets and scoring brownie points than doing something real for the communities that have elected them.
I would sincerely ask and urge you, if you live in Blackpool South, to vote for Dr. Tun and Integrity UK as a first step toward people power not political party power.
Bill
