The Gasjet is reporting that Fylde council advisors have told the council to approve Trevor Hemmings’ plan to construct 275 homes on the former Pontins site on Clifton Drive, despite opposition from Blackpool Airport. The decision will be rubber stamped next week.

It’s a joke – the planning officer Mike Atherton has recommended it because it meets Government targets, ergo he would OK any old planning application provided it’s not in Foxhall (because the council want to build there in 17 years).

Mike, there’s a fucking election tomorrow, the targets could be scrapped on Friday. Have you been bunged a brown envelope to rush this shit through?

These proposed developments, both from Kensington and Northern Trust, along the two arteries linking Blackpool South and St. Annes are going to cause big problems if further links are not provided.

  1. No new houses should be built until all brownfield land has been redeveloped first, of course that won’t happen whilst VAT works against you on restoring an old building as opposed to building a new one.

  4. Well I think Counterbalance explains it all a lot better than I can. Their article is worth reading if you’re interested in planning:

  5. Cheers for the link Frustrated, one thing I would insist on as part of the planning permission process is that any housing developer pays for the tram line to be extended to these houses.

  6. Well it’s a terrible site to live surely. I’ve been in those offices next to the airport and when something’s taking off or landing the noise is terrible despite the double glazing. We really need to look at infrastructure and get it properly located. Personally I want green space as I believe it makes life more pleasant for everyone living in the area regardless of income. But if we have dense housing (and Blackpool is already too densely built in my opinion and St Annes close to that position now) we can’t build for those jobs and that transport. I don’t want to live in a City – I’ve done that and I want a more peaceful area now. It’s wrong that governments and councils can so easily change the entire nature of the place we live in along with developers that make their money, then cut and run.
