It is commented upon very often by Labour supporters and even the Prime Minister himself that many of the Conservatives are public schoolboys or schoolgirls. They are: I don’t dispute it, but it isn’t something that causes me to break into a cold envious sweat.

I would like to clear up a misconception, though, that Labour candidates and MPs are all working class products of state schools. I will go through some of the more well known ones that went to a private school, Oxbridge, or both. Note that unlike students today, none of these bastards people paid anything for their university educations, even those such as Yvette Cooper that went on to do second and third degrees.

Thanks must go to Working Class Tory, whose list from back in December I have shamelessly nicked. You might also be interested in his list – in addition to the ones I am about to mention – of those Labour MPs that went to grammar schools.

  1. Which is why Labour look stupid and amateurish when they try and play the class card….

The level of hypocrisy astounds me, they ensure their own kids are not subject to the same schools ours are and then claim the money needed to pay for them in dodgy expenses.

None of the above is the only real credible vote……….They are all as bad as one another. Tories will saddle up with big business and Labour with the TU’s

Vote for Guido Fawkes they only person to enter Parliament with true intentions.

  3. Absolutely fantastic Phil, kudos for your research. This is the point I have made many times. I am so sick of Labour supporters and Labour MPs using outdated and derogatory terms like ‘toffs’ saying ‘The Conservative Cabinet has 15 people from Eton’ which are a load of rubbish. Labour need to stop this childish class snobbery. I want the best qualified MPs and if they went to a public school then they got a good education what’s wrong with that.

  4. [...] popular articles were General Election 2010, Labour private schoolboys list and Blackpool Aloud under spam attack from Corrie [...]

  5. Underlines the close relationship between access to private education and membership of the political elite – who says class is dead. But what ARE the political avenues for working class and middle class socialists?

Might be instructive to look at the educational elite themselves (University Vice-Chancellors and Professors) and also at the ‘captains’ of industry…
