May 7; the eagerly-awaited results come in and there is joy and equally disappointment depending where on the Fylde Coast you live.
Fylde remained blue, but Labour was never a threat anyway and Mark Menzies looks to be a very good candidate, the very popular Ben Wallace kept hold of Wyre where again Labour was never a threat. Congratulations Mr Menzies and Mr Wallace.
Eric Ollerenshaw very narrowly snatched Lancaster and Fleetwood from the reach of Clive Grunshaw. I find Grunshaw very slimy and very negative. Everytime he writes a letter into the Gazette it is just full of Tory-bashing smears. Also his campaign was plain stupid. He kept going around saying ‘I am the Fleetwood candidate vote for me’ in case it slipped his mind the seat is LANCASTER and Fleetwood, but I am certainly glad he was kept out, just another Labour yes-man if I ever saw one. Congratulations Mr Ollerenshaw, keeping Grunshaw out is an added bonus.
Blackpool North had a very good day when excellent and tirelessly hard-working candidate Paul Maynard was victorious. I have every confidence he will prove to be just as excellent an MP, I bet Jack Croysdill is spitting his dummy and I forsee an anti-Tory rant forecoming in the Gasjet in the coming days and best of all that snotty Penny Martin was kept out. Congratulations Mr Maynard.
So my dream of a blue Fylde Coast again was almost realised until I recived the terrible news on Friday morning Labour had kept hold of my home constituency Blackpool South. I went through mixed feelings of great frustration and great disappointment. I really love Blackpool, I really care about my hometown and I really wanted a LOCAL MP who will put Blackpool first and be a voice for Blackpool as we have been very poorly represented by the current MP who has never even lived in Blackpool and still doesn’t. The only consolation is that his majority has been significantly reduced to a level which makes the seat a marginal but I would rather that useless MP was booted out and Blackpool never had to look at his smug, slimy face in the Gasjet ever again.
Our only hope of getting rid of Marsden is the possibility of a re-election due to the hung parliament result from yesterday. Blackpool deserves better than Marsden and I am extremely pissed off he has been given another chance when he has proven time and time again he couldn’t give a toss about Blackpool.
So all in all a great result for the Fylde Coast as a whole only dampened by the continuation of the Labour stranglehold in Blackpool South. The only good news this weekend is that Blackpool have made the next stage of the playoffs, eventhough I am not a football fan it is good to see the local team doing well, after all we need some good news.

This whole thing is far from concluded, watch this space.

Yep – there could be a rerun in the next few months so lets hope if it ends up in that those who voted Lib Dem will realise that they ARE natural Labour supporters and interested in PR simply because it would get them more seats. I’m very against PR as a concept – because assuming it would run as the European elections do, I can only name Euro MPs who have controversy against them – Nick Griffin, Den Dover, David Sumberg & Sir Robert Atkins and I wouldn’t know how to contact any of them which given that I’ve met Den Dover seems a bit strange. We’d have to vote merely for a party, not a candidate – so what do you do if you have David Chayter, Ron Bell et al as part of your party’s chosen candidates? And how will the areas be chosen? In Lancashire the result would be very different if West and East Lancs are merged as areas.

Be careful what you wish for. An election in a few months time would quite likely be with a Labour Party that has dumped Brown and got itself a shiny new leader, probably David Milllllliband. Also, the Clegg mania novelty would be completely gone and all parties would be still fairly skint so couldn’t spend as much on their campaigns which I’m guessing would harm the Conserevatives most. Lancaster&Fleetwood and Blackpool North and Cleveleys could easily swing to Labour as well as an overall majority in the country. All just my opinion.

Do people actually like David Miliband?

I think most would currently say they didn’t know enough about him yet to like/dislike and couldn’t name him from a photo, but that would soon change if he became leader, was same with Cameron really. Like Cameron he’s fairly young, photogenic and articulate, and compared to Brown’s personal rating the only way is up

Clevelys Cowboy makes an interesting point, here’s one scenario.I accept theres many more of course:
The lib dems join the tories, limp on for 12 months.
The tories make most of the budget adjustments needed for economic stability etc
The public dont like it,very painfull.
Meanwhile,Labour have ditched Brown, and got a new leader, Alan Johnson?
Another election comes along within 12 months due to lib/con fall out.; labour win, die to public anger at the pain and they have a new more likeable leader.
The tories have done most of the dirty work to sort out the mess but get punished for it.
Didnt something like this happen in 74???

Time for Labour to ask it’s friends in big business and the Unions to dig deep for some more cash, yes it’s not just Lord Ashcroft that donates. Don’t worry TB, Blackpool South will become Conservative again as their majority keeps getting smaller.

I sincerely hope ZF, we deserve an MP who will work for Blackpool and 13 years have proved that ain’t Marsden. Come on Blackpool South burn that dirty red flag and keep Liebour out for good.
I am mega pissed off at the Gasjet moderators, I have just come home tonight and found they have restored all the 2010 election comments including very offensive comments by that obnoxious cunt ItzNotWotItWoz, so I have sent a furious complaint to them and if they are not removed I will take it to Johnston Press. That idiot has had a campaign against me for ages and they restore his stupid remarks, I will not stand for it.

TB, you are better than that mate, stick with forum,PHILTHEONE, the only one mate.
The gazette is a waste of space.

As Harold says, I don’t know why you waste your time commenting on there.

Anyone that uses “z’s” to deliberately mispell words has to be of exceedingly limited intellect.
They’re trying to bully you and the more you react the more they’ll do it. When you simply denounce them as idiots who’ll always do that because they couldn’t argue their way out of paper bag and don’t care, you’ll take their fun away and it will eventually stop if the Gazette don’t do anything.
Anyone else notice how Gordon Marsden winning is the video shown on the front page of the Gazette website? I suppose they had to given it’s the only Labour victory in such a Tory success for the whole Fylde coast and they’re so biased.

In all fairness TB does have strident views and he can use some fairly insulting language and generalisations. It should only be expected that this upsets people and he should be able to cope with it or he should stop posting. The saying if you don’t like the cold don’t sleep on the floor.
loading...
I don’t insult people, I have strong views and I am not afraid to express them but I do not abuse and insult people like some of the Labour supporters. I only ever get sharp with my comments when they start it by insulting me. I am entitled to an opinion and if it ‘upsets’ them then they should act like grown-ups and challenge me fairly instead of deleting my comments and insulting me.
loading...
TB’s beef though is the deliberate deleting of every comment he posts no matter what he says. That is completely unjustified for anyone that believes in free speech. And these commentators are happy to post pro-Labour comments at the same time. So John if the issue was that they just posted their own views I wouldn’t agree TB was given a hard time unjustifiably. But that’s just not the siutation.
And it’s not just TB. If you look during the evening or weekends you’ll see all comments on all issues reported as unsuitable. There is clearly at least one idiot reporting comments and whilst the Gazette allow it (which they do by having the system they do for reporting comments when a new one is available from Johnston Press that the LEP is already using) they are stifling all viewpoints and information that doesn’t come from them – and given how bad, wrong and biased some of those articles can be that is definitely a blow to free speech and fairness.

I have to be honest and say I stopped reading the EG online a long time ago I did comment a few times and my comments were deleted, and I do have a left of centre view so I do think it is just more then labour voters deleting. In fact I know that TB himself has had a whole thread stopped and all comments removed because people disagreed with what he was saying.
loading...
I think you are wrong there, I have never had a whole thread stopped and all comments removed. I have deleted comments before but not out of political motivation simply when obnoxious people like BlackpoolRockSeller and ItzNot were not ‘disagreeing’ with me, they were just being plain nasty and hurling insults at me. There was a thread on St Georges Baths that caused a lot of fireworks and the Gazette blocked comments because Labour supporters were making disgusting comments calling the Conservatives ‘Nazis’ and such other disgusting remarks.
loading...
Very good point Frustrated but I think there is more than one person at it. I notice patterns in the deleting. I have seen occasions where only MY comments disappear and all the others regardless of political leaning are left, then on other occasions ALL comments vanish except for one or two randomly untouched comments.
loading...
No – I think that was one of the many occassions when all pro Conservative comments were removed so it became biased rather than a reasoned debate. I didn’t even mind Dustin – his comments were so unreasonably optimistically for Labour no matter what had gone wrong for them. I suppose I sort of wished I could think a party was that good – as I think they’ve all got faults, it’s just a balancing act of who you think is best at the end of the day.
loading...
I don’t doubt for a second pro con comments have been removed but so have anti con comments and left wing comments. All I am saying it is not just Labour suppoerters removing comments.
loading...
I found dustbin sorry dustin amusing…………

I agree – it all gets into tit for tat. I don’t know who is deleting – but I don’t think it’s politically motivated in the main. I think all the pro-one party comment deleting is to get on someone’s nerves – then that gets on someone elses who deletes – and could well be being done by someone or more than one person who aren’t even posting at all. It’s childish and boring – hence why we all come here.

I feel I must just have a rant for a minute and straighten out a few things out about newly elected MP Paul Maynard. This is aimed primarily at Labour supporters who keep spouting misguided lies and untruths about Mr Maynard.
He is NOT an out of towner, Londoner, Southerner etc. He was born in Cheshire, stood for Twickenham in 2005 and then moved to Blackpool in 2006/7 when he was selected as candidate. He is NOT one of these ‘parachuted in’ people. He really has made the effort to live in the area 3/4 years before his election and he has done a damn sight more for the people of Blackpool and Cleveleys than Marsden or Humble have in 13 years. Also please drop these childish ‘posh’ and ‘upper crust’ stereotypes. Mr Maynard is an honest, hard-working and down to earth guy who I am confident will be an excellent MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys. Drop this forlorn obsession with where he went to school and judge the man himself as an MP. Anyhow I think it is good that he is a well-educated and intelligent MP. Congratulations Mr Maynard, I wish you all the best in your future as Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP.

He will be much better than Moan Bumble, well done Paul, although I voted UKIP , I am happy to have you as my MP.Hes worked hard for this and deserves a chance.
