Got my first UKIP flyer through the post today, and I never thought I would say this but it’s actually pretty good and I don’t disagree with any of it.

The front page is fairly plain with the three main UKIP selling points (pull out of Europe, pull out of Europe and pull out of Europe), and at first I thought they might be trying to hide the local candidate. Not the case.

I turned over the page to see a crafted blurb from Hamish Howitt himself. Some of the words are splendidly chosen, but you can read it for yourself below.

Reading the bit about donating a third of his salary to various people saddened me though. Very desperate, Hamish.

  2. I agree with the bit about Marsden but I don’t believe any of the rest of it. He can come out with all this sort of stuff but we really know all he is interested in is trying to overturn the smoking ban. He would be a voice for smokers and pubs not the people of Blackpool. I don’t believe he would be a good representative for Blackpool. He has embarassed our town with his antics enough already. I know I sound very cynical but I don’t trust this guy as far as I can throw him. He is not UKIP material and no leaflet is going to convince me otherwise. He is a socialist (my enemies), socialists don’t stand for UKIP.

  3. I take it that this(leaflet) is what Hamish Howitt thinks is what will inspire the electorate to VOTE for him in Blackpool South,I think not.

  4. Maybe the other side of the leaflet was better but I’m not impressed. He’s dedicated to Blackpool and yet then goes on to mention just how much of the world he’s worked in. Perhaps if he’d edited it down a bit and added a bit of substance I’d be more in favour. Maybe his background will impress traditional Labour voters who smoke? I don’t doubt he’s intelligent rather than stupid, but a good MP?

    • That is exactly what he is trying to do Frustrated I believe. I reckon in normal circumstances Hamish is a left-wing Labour voter, he is not in a million years right-leaning, he is not UKIP material. The only reason he is slagging Marsden off is because he is bitter about the smoking ban like those other Foxhall publicans who childishly ‘barred’ Marsden and Humble from their pubs. That is exactly who I feel he is aiming for working-class smokers. He is definitely not MP material, I want an MP who will be a voice for Blackpool, not a voice for smokers and pro-smoking publicans.

      • I think perhaps I got carried away because he was quick to put the boot into current councillors.

        • Do you think it was perhaps because he wasn’t as bad as you thought he was going to be? Like that moment in the debate on trident when Gordon Brown delivered that impressive “get real, Nick” – I was very impressed and I’ve not really thought about whether Trident is a good thing or not. Then of course he spoiled it all with that silly grin of “didn’t I do well there”.
If he’s point scoring instead of really passionate about what he’s saying I’m not going to like him – same with Hamish et al.

          • Quite possibly yeah. Had it not been Hamish Howitt I may have thought differently but I don’t think I am alone there!

  5. Have to say, I like Hamish, and not just ’cause I’m sympathetic to his stance on the smoking ban. He’s a real slugger whose never backed down over any issue, and has some real life experience that is so lacking among the ‘big party’ politicians. Was also impressed by the double-side of A4 leaflet he put out before the poll, the first Ukip literature ever without any reference to Europe. Just wonder why he feels the need to pal up with the swivel-eyed loons of Ukip. Not that I’d vote for him anyway…. simply on literacy grounds

    • The only reason he has joined UKIP (and was forced upon the members) is because they now have an official manifesto on pubs and smoking and are pledging to overturn the smoking ban, so they won’t be getting my vote anytime soon. He is not UKIP material at all, I don’t believe for a second he represents UKIP policy, he is a socialist another reason I won’t vote for him.

        • Roy Hopwood is UKIP material, a long-standing member who truly represents the party and its policies. Hamish is just a one-trick pony who was welcomed into the party along with Nick Hogan by the pro-smoking top brass. I wouldn’t be surprised if on Friday when the results are announced Hamish will announce his resignation from UKIP when he comes 6th.

          • Thats why Roy gets my vote, as for loons, look no further that the marxist-communist nulabour sponsored paedo loving UAF.

  7. According to the Gazette readers panel poll, UKIP have no chance. I know its not the most representative poll but I reckon its right. I predict UKIP will get their lowest vote share ever in Blackpool South but Hamish will probably get his highest, but then 91 is not exactly hard to beat is it? UKIP for 6th Place 2010

    • lol. UKIP only got about 800 votes last time round, compared with Marsden’s 19,000+.

An almighty swing if they can pull that off!
