There is much press at the moment around the issue of public toilets in Blackpool and to be quite honest I agree with what has been said by many. There is just not enough public toilets in Blackpool.
For example if you walk along the Promenade there is no public toilets between Cocker Square and the Solarium at Harrowside (and those ones are hidden away) unless you go into a pub/pier/McDonalds etc. This has caused a rise in people urinating in the street out of desperation especially since the sexist laws forcing men to pay for urinals were brought in.
Originally there was a loophole in the sex discrimination laws meaning public urinals were free for men. But then these laws were changed (probably to do with Harriet racist sexist Harperson) meaning everyone now has to pay for public toilets.
I do not think anyone should have to pay to use public toilets especially when the silly Danfo toilets we have demand specifically an exact 20 pence piece which I am sure none of us absolutely always have available.
I think it is time we brought back free public toilets and more importantly we got more of them especially around the Promenade and town centre.

Well it’s not the pay to use urinals that are the problem (‘cos afterall it’s easier for blokes to pee outdoors anyway) but the fact there aren’t enough and they cost too much. Go to the public loos in the Gardens near the pier in summer and there’s always a massive queue and they can’t be collecting much money in as everyone holds the door open for each other in the ladies so that they don’t have to pay Mrs F reliably informs me.
Seems strange that councils in holiday resorts would rather clean up bodily fluids from the pavements than public toilets.

And where ,when they hold large events on the Tower headland (will it be ready as planned for this years switch on?) are all those people going to be catered for I wonder, doesn’t seem they’ve thought of that.

Splendid issue to raise.
I agree that it’s an absolute scandal that councils across the UK charge you to perform a basic bodily function and fine you if you perform it on the street out of desperation.
I’ll tell you what’s wrong with these 20p public toilets as they stand though, and it’s the abundance of junkies that use them.
If you go into a public lavatory in Blackpool there is a good chance you will see some kind of drug taking paraphernalia; be it a syringe, some burnt foil or a burnt drinks can. Previously when toilets were manned (or womanned) druggies were discouraged from using them for shooting up because they’d be caught pretty quickly. (It still happened though and I remember going to the loo once and finding a dead druggie slumped over one!)
But these 20p toilets such as the block at Talbot Road Bus Station allow druggies to lock themselves in, and since the toilets are unmanned it means that nobody else can use them until the DANFO cleaner turns up on his three-times-daily visit.

The Talbot Road bus station ones are nasty and as you say Phil there is a real issue there for drug use as anyone who has caught an early National Express coach will testify to.
Some of the best loos in Blackpool were the old Central Station ones which were recently demolished, there is lies the answer lets staff them and change the design.

I agree with the issue. I wonder if the Council are willing to spend some of that £5million in there reserve pot to fund some public toliets on the prom. But then again they seem more willing to use it for there mates property’s or loans than improving our streets!

Urinals should be free for both sexes.!
Urinals has a very high throughput and uses very little water.
If someone in the street in Blackpool asks for 20p you now know what it is for.
