I’VE JUST returned from Newquay and been greeted by a letter from Cllrs Fowler advising me that some things I said in the article named Boxer Scaffolding’s big erection were defamatory. So I am going to clarify and correct them, as requested by Cllrs Fowler, in the same font and style as other posts.

The first is that I suggested that Cllr Ian Fowler was part of the executive that agreed the £5m loan to the Pleasure Beach. He states that he was not at the meeting and therefore I retract that statement and any previous suggestions that this might be the case.

I also apologise to Ian Fowler for making this incorrect statement about his participation in the loan agreement and assure him that this was a mistake and that I have on previous occasions stated that he was not present at the executive meeting on the 10th of March 2010.

Secondly, I described a process of the council loaning money to the Pleasure Beach and them in turn using some of it to pay Cllr Ian Fowler for his scaffolding services as ‘laundering’. This process is not money laundering, and this word should not have been used to describe it.

I was absolutely not suggesting that this was illegal or that any of the participants were involved in any other illegal activities and apologise to all parties concerned, particularly Cllr Ian Fowler, for giving off any impressions to the contrary.
