THE TALBOT Gateway project has been called into question a lot in the last few weeks admist a barrage of cuts to a long list of projects by the North West Development Agency.

Today it has been suggested by construction website BDonline that the Talbot Gateway will have only two hotels despite it being announced in the Gasjet just four months ago that it would have four.

Furthermore it was suggested that the council’s preferred developer for this project, Muse, have said the project will be delayed. Delayed until when? It’s already gone from having a timescale of 5 years (according to a Blackpool Task Force report signed by Peter Callow in 2007) to 16 years. I mean, it’s quite feasible that half the councillors could actually be dead by the time this project goes anywhere, if indeed it does.

Going back to the hotels, if there are now only two, what’s going to be in the space that the other two would have occupied?

Helen France seems buoyant about receiving funding for the scheme from the Regional Growth Fund, but if anyone with any sense of what Blackpool really needs takes part in the approval process they will knock this stupid scheme back once and for all.

  1. When I get time over the next month, I’m going to come up with my proposals for this area and how we can get funding for them.

        • No – found it. Corporate director for Places. So I guess it’s a company she’s head of. In charge of Places. Well there’s no “i” in and I assume it’s correct and she’s nothing to do with fish. Is she in charge of the whole earth then? Galaxy perhaps?

    • Well, the one I saw was different to all of those mentioned! The one I saw was “Executive Director of Places”. Only slightly different.

Does that mean Steve Weaver is the “Chief Executive of Lots of Things and Stuff”?

      • Don’t know, but someone needs to plant a sign on his door saying “Underworked. Overpaid.”

      • I think he will actually be “People” as there’s lots of crap around about “people and places”. So Helen’s in charge of the planet and Steve Weaver in charge of all the people on it, obviously.

  6. I don’t understand is the site back online? But anyway, this is exactly why I don’t support TG any longer it has been scaled back again and again and now again. As have many have said in recent days they should just dump this pointless scheme and do something that will actually benefit Blackpool. It is reaching a point where it will just be the ugly old buildings getting a lick of paint.

  9. Well there’s some good news tonight in that St Annes’ promenade “regeneration” looks to be out of the question due to lack of funding. HURRAH!
Why Fylde were ever given money to half re-do assets so that they don’t look as good as the originals would have had they kept them in reasonable repair in the first place I don’t understand. How many councils waste money like this? Far better to get some real money into schemes in places like Blackpool and Fleetwood and repair what’s already there in the “better” areas. Ashton Gardens was done up by selling a large chunk of land for flats (most aren’t occupied) and very minor improvements which are constantly vandalised. What a waste.
