Just a heads up as to why the site has been experiencing problems this afternoon.
The site is hosted on a virtual server, which is in layman’s terms a very powerful computer running less powerful, virtual computers within its hardware. As a result, the bandwidth of the powerful computer is split between the virtual ones.
The database seems to have corrupted itself but as the responsible administrator that I am, I do do regular backups.
As a result, the site’s been rolled back to it’s state as of 8.40am this morning. Hopefully not too many comments have been lost!
This month has seen yet more growth for my website with 3940 visits compared with 3095 last month.
Page views were up dramatically with 18731 views compared with 12482, and there were more unique visitors; up from 739 to 872. I’m not sure where these extra visitors are hearing about the site as I don’t actively advertise it (through laziness mainly) but I’m very pleased that there’s content on here that people want to read.
I was inspired by a thread on Live In Blackpool’s forum about good places to go to eat/drink and since I’m always wondering where might be a nice place to go I thought if I went in anywhere in town I’d do a quick review of it.
I have added a category for Blackpool Reviews so if you want you can easily bring up the reviews either myself or any of my guest authors have written.
Just thought I would let you know that the site continues to grow in popularity with a 32% increase in visits compared to last month and the visitor graph is smoothing out which suggests that more readers are coming back to the site!
In terms of actual numbers, there were 3095 visits to the site last month and a total of 12482 page views. There were 739 unique visitors, 21.2% of whom were new visitors. Average time spent on the site per user is just shy of 8 minutes.
Just thought I would update you on why the site was offline last night, although you probably can guess.
The comments on the “two jobsworths out” thread were getting unpleasant and personal, resulting in legal threats against myself from History Hunter of the Thornton Through Time website. I had no access to a computer at the time, so took the site offline via my phone.
Yesterday there were the most daily hits ever on the site, with the preceding day having the second most: the Darrell Pierre story being by far the most accessed.
Over the month, actual visits are up by 42% with just shy of 1000 unique visitors. In the previous month, there were just less than 400 uniques.
