Google News brought me something interesting this morning. Something new I’d not read much of in the past. It’s Notareargunner’s blog.
He is, by all accounts, a former soldier and his blog is laden with political chat, putting the boot into almost anyone. In his latest post entitled “Blackpool politics gets interesting”, he’s targetted Gordon Marsden and Ron Bell, and also provides a bit of history about Mr Bell’s career, labelling him a “fat shit” and a “monkey” in the process.

David Cameron has every need to come out with his guns blazing after his nervous and on the whole quite poor performance on the Leaders’ Debate last week, and one can certainly say the publicity floodgates have opened.

I hope you’ve all got your popcorn and soft drink ready, for tonight is the first of the three televised leaders’ debates. These debates are unprecedented in the UK, and sets the tone for a very public run-in towards the election.

Today I’ve been leafletted again by Ronald Bell, and this time it’s a glossy, double-sided A3 sheet entitled “Change”.
I have to say, it’s rather better than the last one and focuses more on positive campaigning than trying to fob us off that he doesn’t support Kensington when we all know otherwise. That topic still creeps in, though.

It’s being reported today that Conservative advisor Sir Peter Gershwin has leaked some of the ways David Cameron intends to save £12billion to pay for the national insurance freeze.
According to reports, up to £2bn can be saved immediately by not replacing back office staff that leave or retire from the public sector. Financial boffins have stated that this could lead to a cut of between 20,000 and 40,000 jobs, but given the range they have quoted, their methodology and calculations must be far from precise.

The public sector now accounts for a fifth of all British workers, and in the last decade almost a million new public sector jobs have been created by Labour. These jobs historically have always come with gold plated final salary pension schemes, creating a huge burden to the taxpayer.

Just what is a conservative and what is conservatism?
I wager that conservatism is more of an attitude/instinct to question and resist change and also to preserve, i.e conserve what is considered good, than a precise prescriptive ideology. So is the current Conservative party actually conservative? I would say most certainly not, especially under PC liberal leader Dave Cameron. Peter Hitchens, as a columnist for the Daily Mail, asks some questions that DC has refused to answer. Here they are in their effervescent glory. True blue conservatives weep, you have been sold out. In fact true blue Tories would probably identify more with the BNP’s social policies, but I left that for another article.

This morning, the Prime Minister rolled in to Nottingham to give a speech to Labour proles that he hoped would open up some clear water between his tired Labour machine and the Conservatives. Following this, David Cameron stormed, sans notes, into Milton Keynes to whip the local Tories into an election winning mentality after the recent lull in Conservative popularity. Nick Clegg followed suit afterwards.
