I SAID at the start of June that the Pleasure Beach would be the secret beneficiary of a five million pound loan from Blackpool Council and despite some readers casting doubt over the issue and others claiming that people high up the food chain had laughed off the idea, it turns out I was right.
Politics overload today but I have to mention the Lord Ashcroft farce. Okay, he’s a non-dom, and he doesn’t pay any UK tax on his offshore investments.
Why is it a non-story? Simple. Labour accepts donations from non-doms and so do the Liberal Democrats.
Following the news that Conservative PPC Ron Bell has received just a slap on the wrist for not declaring £5,000 in donations he accepted from Kensington Developments, the housebuilder has promised to make a further donation before the general election.

Election campaigns are starting to roll now, and Ron Bell’s already managed to wangle over £500 in donations towards his campaign goal of £2000.
Clearly his upbeat campaign that he, “came into politics not to be a Politician,” and the accompanying video whipped up a veritable frenzy of passion amongst his Blackpool South contingent. He still needs a 9% swing which wont be at all easy, and I’m still left wondering why his campaign target isn’t £10,000.
July-September
“I love this town.” - Phil “The Power” Taylor
The start of July saw Blackpool’s Opera House announced as the 2009 venue for the Royal Variety Performance. The show would be in December. We also saw Labour crushed in the European elections as the British National Party secured two seats in the European Parliament. Their victory rally would be held in Blackpool a few weeks later prompting an invasion of Unite Against Fascism.
It’s not just Blackpool South Conservatives that are on the payroll of Kensington Developments. After vehemently denying any donations had been accepted, Fylde Conservatives were today revealed to have accepted a cheque from the housebuilder.
