Following clashes at the latest Lib-Lab meeting featuring Ed Balls as the unforgiving stone faced socialist that would not give any concessions on the Labour manifesto, it looks as if Nick Clegg is coming close to a deal with the Conservative party today. Maybe he realised that doing a deal with a party that refuses to make cuts in order to raise spending money isn’t going to fulfil any of his manifesto promises.

Since the election result and Call me Dave offered a deal to the Liberal Democrats, the two parties have been negotiating the terms for a coalition government. Today in a remarkable U-turn, Nick Clegg has requested formal talks with Labour as Gordon Brown announces he will stand down once a replacement is found. Maybe the man in the chicken suit stood next to him yesterday when he was interviewed was a sign of things to come from Clegg.

In 2 hours the count will begin. The odds are suggesting a hung parliament or the narrowest of Conservative victories.
Locally the Tory in Blackpool South has out-leafletted his competitors by a factor of 8 but still has to overturn a large Labour lead. In Blackpool North the Labour candidate Penny Martin has gone into overdrive with negative campaigning against front runner Paul Maynard. The Liberal Democrats have failed to exploit the sleaze in Blackpool South and have seemed rather distant in Blackpool North. I’ve seen no Liberal Democrat leaflets in Blackpool North at all but plenty of Labour and Conservative ones.
I’ve been browsing through the UK Polling Report website and it seems the consensus there is that the Liberal Democrat surge will only be serving to assist Ron Bell in his quest to become a member of Parliament.

Gordon Marsden has been the MP for Blackpool South since 1997 following the huge disillusioned swing to New Labour. Previously, the constituency was a safe Tory seat with corporate lawyer Nick Hawkins winning in 1992 and before him Sir Peter Blaker successfully renewing his occupation of the seat at every election from 1964 until his retirement.
In a moment which will strike Liberal Democrat and Conservative spin doctors as mana from heaven, Gordon Brown has today exposed himself as a two-faced, distant politician that does not even care about his own voters. This, dear readers, is Gordon Brown’s John Prescott moment.

Google News brought me something interesting this morning. Something new I’d not read much of in the past. It’s Notareargunner’s blog.
He is, by all accounts, a former soldier and his blog is laden with political chat, putting the boot into almost anyone. In his latest post entitled “Blackpool politics gets interesting”, he’s targetted Gordon Marsden and Ron Bell, and also provides a bit of history about Mr Bell’s career, labelling him a “fat shit” and a “monkey” in the process.
