In a week where multi millionaire, expenses sponging Labour MP Barbara Follett told us that council tax is to rise by 3% despite the country being in recession, the salt is well and truly rubbed into the wound by today’s revelation that 40 year old Somali former asylum seeker Nasra Warsame, her mother and 7 [...more]

Just come back from Bloomfield Road and like at most stadiums today there was a veterans parade. At half time, various veterans were announced and applauded. Councillor Ron Bell was then announced as a veteran and the applause completely stopped. A couple of other veterans were announced and the applause recommenced, until Councillor Jim Houldsworth [...more]

Following the submission of the Kensingtongate planning application to the Government, junior Communities Minister Ian Austin commented that Blackpool should focus on building housing in its deprived and neglected central areas rather than on the periphery. His words were that they should concentrate on “previously developed land first”. I think most locals would be on [...more]

It seems developers are queueing up to concrete our green and pleasant Fylde at the moment. I don’t think anyone is particularly surprised by this particular news though: the rumours have been rumbling [...more]

Reality check

After the overwhelming success of their Cypress Point development in St. Annes, Kensington Developments have been looking for further locations to build their next Noddy Town on. They have been buying up land on Marton Moss for a long time, even before John Prescott decided it was fine for developers to steamroller through green belts [...more]

Everyone’s got a website these days, haven’t they? I once swore I’d never make a blog, but here we are. Blackpool Council has not one, not two, but ten websites. Ten. That might not be such a surprise to some; large companies have more than that in some cases. It was, however, a surprise to [...more]

Going for Gord

So Gordon Brown is going to give all of the British Olympians a gong as a reward for winning medals at the Beijing Olympics. I wonder if they’ll take pride of place in their trophy cabinets; Olympic gold with Gordons Gong next to it. Awesome sauce. It’s a somewhat desperate publicity stunt and whilst there [...more]
