Never mind hounding out a charity boss for buying artwork with donations, the witch hunt should be against Chief Superintendent Richard Debicki after his latest blast of hot air in the local press. Russ Weaver was shite, but Debicki takes the award for being most utterly pointless policeman in Blackpool’s history.
Despite record rises in the number of police officers the police overtime bill has gone up by a stonking 90% in the last 10 years to £400m, boosting the average officer’s salary by £3,500. Three quarters of police forces claimed these levels of overtime were due to under-staffing despite police officer numbers having risen by 20,000 in the same period.

I’m sure some of the haters will claim it’s karma, what has gone around coming around, or some sort of punishment for driving an orange car, but yesterday I went to the gym at Palatine Leisure Centre and came out to find that my car – parked pretty much in front of the main entrance – had been keyed down to the bare metal right along the bonnet and on to the passenger wing.
I’m not really surprised by this but it came out two days ago that out of 88,536 incidents of police officers caught speeding on duty last year only 153 were prosecuted. And these were only the ones caught on camera.
