May 7; the eagerly-awaited results come in and there is joy and equally disappointment depending where on the Fylde Coast you live.

Fylde remained blue, but Labour was never a threat anyway and Mark Menzies looks to be a very good candidate, the very popular Ben Wallace kept hold of Wyre where again Labour was never a threat. Congratulations Mr Menzies and Mr Wallace.

We have 4 days left until possibly one of the most significant general elections in recent decades. This time last year it seemed relatively certain David Cameron would be taking the keys to No.10 next friday. However now with the opinion polls going haywire in the past few months there is increasing unertainty and the looming possibility of a Hung Parliament, an outcome not seen since 1974.

The first election debate took place on Thursday night, I have still yet to watch it but I hear on good authority that Nick Clegg is widely seen as the ‘winner’ of the first debate. This has clearly been reflected in recent opinion polls where much to my delight the Lib Dems have actually OVERTOOK Lying Labour.

Do We Have An Election in Less Than a Month or Not?

Today we are less than 4 weeks away from the General Election and we have 6 candidates for Blackpool South yet I have not seen ONE single campaign leaflet or manifesto. It feels like there is no election. I would have thought at this crucial stage the candidates would be desperately pitching for our votes, well they’re not trying very hard.

A couple of years ago Blackpool Council unveiled ‘The Saturation policy’ which in one sentence is basically a policy that was meant to curb the opening of binge drinking outlets. Now at first that sounds like a admirable enough ambition to try and restore a bit of quality to Blackpool’s nightscene.

The events of 1978-9 appear to be repeating themselves, first the militant Unite calls strike for BA staff and now the RMT union is threatening rail strikes. Yet again like in 78′ overpowerful militant trade unions are ruling the country.

This slogan makes me cringe and react with fury everytime I hear it, Labour banging on about ‘fairness’. They have shown in the last 13 years they know nothing about fairness. Hearing Labour bang on about aspiration makes me cringe evenmore, socialism opposes hard work and ambition.

The proposed upcoming TV debates between the 3 leaders; Brown, Cameron and Clegg have just become even more interesting. For one thing I am very glad to see they are all being held outside London, a point brilliantly put by Carol Vorderman on Question Time.
