THIS YEAR has seen the unfortunate deaths of two well known and well liked councillors, namely Bloomfield’s Mary Smith and Marton’s Jim Houldsworth, and the by-elections are on the way. Postal voting forms are being deposited through letterboxes this week for polling day on Thursday the 3rd of May. This article is the first of two ward roundups in advance of the forthcoming election.

BLACKPOOL COUNCIL’S flagship Fairness Commission now has it’s own website and modus operandi published for all to see. Some cite it as little other than a quasi-official think tank for the council leader’ cronies, and from observation of the pages adorning its Wordpress.com blog site, one can conclude that this hypothesis isn’t too far off the mark.

Fairness Commission 'unfair'

AFTER SCRAPPING various ‘pointless’ committees, Simon Blackburn whipped out his famous brass instrument at the last full council meeting and proclaimed that Blackpool would be creating a Fairness Commission. There was much rejoicing, of course. Who doesn’t want the council to be fair?
